I read this before but is the "thank you, thanks, thx" etc necessary to get included in the giveaway?

Of course you should say thank you for the person giving it away. I was just wondering. :P

It's not necessary, but surely doesn't hurt.

It's not necessary, but some givers consider it rude not to. After all it's such a small effort and if it might make someone feel a little better I don't see why not.

I would prefer some real comment instead. Something about game even...

Some people like it when you say thank you and others not. The most important thing is, do you want to thank the user for giving away games? If you feel the need to say thank you, just do it. If you don't feel grateful, don't say thank you.

DOES NO-ONE READ THE FAQ?

Chat Room, Forum, and Site Etiquette:

Always thank submitters. Thanking is not required to enter a giveaway.

So you have to say thank you, but you don't have to say thank you?

Wow, thanks for clearing that one up!

1 decade ago
Permalink

What's not clear? It's not required, but it's rude not to thank the nice person giving away the game you want.

I'd explain it to you, but I think it's good for the young ones to solve reading comprehension problems on their own once in a while. It helps in later life.

I am later in life, and I still don't comprehend this! O.o

It says "always thank submitters" which, if you had any of that comprehension you're talking about, you'd recognise as an imperative mood. I.E. a command.

Whether it's intended to mean that or not doesn't change the fact that it's poorly worded. Stop being so defensive.

"Always hold the door open for someone else."

While some of the others are rules, this is merely etiquette. You know, that thing where you're polite?

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, see, polite would be to say "It is considered good manners to always hold the door open for someone else".

It's the difference between "Go away" and "I would appreciate it if you'd go away".

What's wrong with people being polite?

1 decade ago
Permalink

I've seen givers ask for comments (saying anyone who doesn't comment won't win), and I've seen people make giveaways to those who thanked, but normally it's not a requirement to win.

Thanking besides being nice shows one thing, that you actually at least take the time to write something nice instead of clicking "next page- enter giveaway, next page - enter giveaway". You spend a couple of seconds of your life to thank someone.

You haven't given away a single game so how can you even ask that question ? o.o

1 decade ago
Permalink

When I hold a giveaway I don't expect those that enter to thank me, I do however expect those that enter to not friend me on steam and beg me to give them the game.

Like I said yesterday to other member.

"Well, you should say "thanks" because the gifter is giving to you the chance to win a free game, then "thanks" is nothing compared with this."

1 decade ago
Permalink

Yeah... Thanks everyone. I was just asking a question there. As I always try to thank the giver because I'm sure the giver would like to be thanked.

As jadefalcon said ""Always hold the door open for someone else."
While some of the others are rules, this is merely etiquette. You know, that thing where you're polite?"

I'm still sure if it was or wasn't a strict rule I would still say thank you regardless. Because its the right thing to do.
