I actually have to ask for the third reroll for the same DLC. So far all three winners already own it.

Steamgifts has a hide option. Just click the crossed out eye icon next to the game title and confirm. You won't see giveaways for that title anymore. This is necessary for most DLCs, special editions (GOTY, Ultimate Edition, etc.) and Franchise Packs. Steam doesn't report these when you sync your account.

Sorry no poll and no giveaway here. Just a short rant.

Heh, I don't know about how useful is this message, we also have a set of rules, where regifting, not activating, winning more than 1 copy of a same game is banned but people still keep doing what they want...

BTW :
"Only enter to win games you do not already own, and do not enter to win DLC if you're missing the required base game.
Try to refrain from entering giveaways for packs if you already own the majority of the games contained within. The giveaway creator may request a new winner if you own a high percentage of the packaged games."

Games can't be entered once activated and synced, but Steam doesn't show ownership of most DLCs, and that also effects packs. Its unfortunate, but there isn't a way to prevent people entering them by mistake. Not everyone is going to know they got X DLC in a bundle or the like already.

If they don't know which DLCs they have, why don't they check it...
Or maybe they just don't want these DLCs because I usually remember which DLCs make the game I own even better, and if I need it I can enter giveaways/ buy DLCs =\
Entering bundles\packs\editions for DLCs isn't recommended by SG support and btw he is talking about a single DLC gveaway in this case.
Yeah, blacklist me if you wish,as everyone does =D

Not everyone will, and sometimes they can't (Steam store goes down, nothing you can do). Sometimes even Support can make mistakes there. I remember asking a reroll for something Jade had entered back when they still used the site.

As for packs, they say it depends on the user. Some will be fine with it, others will want it to be entered only by those without the base game.

I only mentioned Franchise packs because they still show up if you own every single item. In that case you should definitely hide that pack.

I hide stuff myself, just that its not something everyone will do. Some people won't even know what the eye does. :P

Europa Universalis IV: Digital Extreme Edition Upgrade Pack
Europa Universalis IV: Pre-Order Pack
Europa Universalis IV: Call-to-Arms Pack
all have issues with steam showing ownership, there are likely others

I'd also recommend people look at the settings page:

Of course you are right. Two small but useful incentives to use the hide feature for DLC you already own would be not to force a page reload when a game/DLC is added to the list and to also show the hide button on giveaway pages, rather than just on the list.

Using BarefootMonkey's script Improved Game Filter removes the page reload when a new game is added to the filter. It has saved me a crapton of time when filtering games (3,693 additional games are currently being filtered).

I have entered all the DLC im missing and wanting to my wishlist and mostly only enter DLC giveaways through wishlist option of giveaways and then using regular list only enter giveaways for DLC i know i dont own and then unsure i always check on steam . And i try to hide all giveaways for DLC i already own cause i would feel enbarassed if had creator ask for reroll cause of my lazyness.

dlcs are hard to detect here, so most people using bots automatically enter everything because they are shameless leeches

just keep rerolling bonus: blacklist everyone :3

The tricky part is when you own a DLC, but you don't recognize the name because rather than buying it outright, you got it as one item that was included in another collection of DLC. Sometimes this isn't obvious because they give the same DLC a different name when it's in a collection, or because it's only mentioned in a big block of text describing the DLC, and not in the list of included content.

It takes a little extra time to double check the Steam store and make sure I truly do not have a particular DLC, but I always do so. Fair is fair.

Giving away dlc is a tricky business, I have few pages of reroll requests for same dlc.

The other 3 DLCs that I gave away at the same time went through without issue. Guess I was just lucky with those.^^

My record:

  • 10 rerolls
  • then 4
  • in the same time ~20 of my gibs ended +2 rerolls (6 now)
  • 2 rerolls, in one game, where there was 5 participants and 4 copies of a game :) - still first roll ;) - it was a free game a day or two AFTER I created a gib :) [I didn't know about it]
  • 1 of them activated gib
  • second one can't, so we are wating second week with admin ticket :P

It's funny and I am never angry :D

Come on!
If we are entering all those DLCs / games , we just have won (and forget to leave others GAs) we are just

wasting points :D

So if you are not doing it - you are in benefit of have MORE POINTS!! (in practice) ^^

Steamgifts has a hide option but doesn't show ownership for most of DLCs, GOTY, Franchise packs, Ultimate Edition, etc. and the problem is greater when you have to get in there quickly because time is running and the game has a lot of DLCs. Example is CoH 2 and it's hard to find DLC in the poor steam search engine. Even your game page does not show what you have and what you do not have such as Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag etc. and the more you own games in library is more becoming an increasing problem because every game has at least 10+ DLC!

I just send DLCs now as a bonus of the main game or try to make GAs for the complete editions and send the keys as one package. The way DLCs are handled on Steam (some are listed in the library, some are not, some have this strange in-between behaviour where they don't show up on the library yet they are counted as separate products), it's just not worth the hassle. Unless it is some expansion level thing, which are super rare.

Just something to mention quickly: DLCs or games you've chosen to hide can still show when navigating to private giveaway links. It's a good idea in such cases to still keep a mental picture of what game DLCs you own or check if you're unsure.

Somekind of 'hey, you have chosen to hide this giveaway'-thing would be nice in private giveaways too. Not to hide it fully so the train doesn't break down (for example) but maybe graying out the 'enter giveaway'-button etc.

I once gave away one dlc, had to reroll once but the winner was really nice to tell me that he already had it. The second winner could already have had it but couldn't really be arsed to check (too many games on his / her account). Got received though.

EDIT: Actually I'm lying it seems. I have given away dlcs couple of times more but whitelist one wasn't even supposed to be a problem and two earlier ones were breeze. Maybe I was just lucky or nobody had those yet. Or sold the key etc and I didn't notice.
