Unfortunately yes.
Not too long ago an IndieGoGo then Kisckstarter project from team pixel was aimed at acquiring the license throught the auction of THQ's assets.
While I do not knowt how real they think it can be, I'd love it fi they were to get it, bringing the HW series to steam and developping the 3.

AFAIK, THQ is / was the one with the IP.
THQ bought the IP from Sierra years ago making it the owner and not Relic, meaning SEGA buying Relic has no consequence on the IP.
I believe the auctioning of the IP is due very soon.

But Relic developed it. Didn't THQ buy Relic from Sierra? It would make more sense to sell the IP with the rest of the developer's assets (to SEGA). Are you sure it was not sold with Relic? I was getting my hopes up with the possibility of SEGA reviving it.

Relic developped the game under Sierra, then was bouht by THQ, years later THQ bought the IP from Seirra and now THQ is dead and selling body parts.

The thing is, since the IP isn't Relic's, they can't Relic with the HW IP as a bonus.
Anyway it would depend on SEGA's widh to buy the IP, which could happen at the auction.

I do not know how it works exactly, but we should know for sure at the end of this month or the following one.
