Alleged Ex-Ubisoft Employee Talks About His Experience

I was in a meeting personally with Yves Guillemot, who said that he doesn’t care about PC gamers because, and i quote “90% are pirates anyway”, that’s after a direct question from a well-respected, well paid programmer back in the late 2000s asking “why are our pc ports fucking shit?”, so we outsourced it all to Eastern Europe.

That's it

I won't buy Ubisoft games, they don't deserve my money

Hang me by the neck, till dead.
Yo, ho, haul together,
hoist the colours high.
Heave ho, thieves and beggars, (no, no beggars)
never shall we die.

Some men have died
and some are alive
and others sail on the sea
-- with the keys to the cage...
and the Devil to pay
we lay to Fiddler's Green!

I wonder why that is....oh yeah, their pc ports are shitty, overpriced, buggy, without steamworks,... they're only worth it at 75%off, that's why I still haven't played Black Flag, Rayman Legends and more, they devalue their own games with that shit.

That's not an excuse to pirate their games though, at least not for me.

And meanwhile in Poland/The Pirate Bay:

Hey guys!

It's Karol from 11 bit studios, the developers of This War of Mine.

We are really happy to hear that you like our game. They prove, that spending 2 years on it was worth it.

I would like to say thank you to everyone, who decides to buy the game and support us - because of that we'll be able to develop TWoM further and create even better games in the future.

If because of some reasons you can't buy the game, it's ok. We know life, and we know, that sometimes it's just not possible.

Here are some codes for the steam copy of the game, so some of you can take a look at it. And if you like the game after spending few hours in, then just spread the word, and you'll help us a lot.

Enjoy!

Perhaps they should work on a good way to avoid that, and not what they have done until now..

Ubisoft still makes a huge profit every year despite the poor quality of it's releases, poor reputation and awful ports. Even if the revenue is focused on just the PC sales alone, I am sure that they make enough to turn a profit, don't quote me on that though, just a poor assumption.

Despite the issues, majority of gamers still continue to purchase their games, and even pre-ordering them though the only incentives are DLC's & modes/challenges/items that should have been in the game in the very first place and other bonuses that should are purely non-essential. AAA companies do not need early support via pre-orders so besides the wants of trivial bonuses, other points are just moot.

But gamers in general are easy to exploit and accept risks and shoddy practices that no other market demographic would even accept.

I'm from eastern europe and i'm one of those 10% or maybe even 5% who buys games, but say a big no no to ubisoft games. Not going to pay for their games until they start to respect us. Ubisoft don't want and don't deserve my money.

Their games I bought: Rayman Gold for 3€ in 2003

Their games I pirated: Far Cry in 2004.

Didn't even know - or care - it's pirating, my uncle's friend was selling hundreds of games for 2€ each. Why would it be something illegal, right? That's how it was and in many countries around the world still is.

Source

And surprise surprise, PS3&X360&PSP users can and do pirate too.

people you need to understand that PC gamers are not 90% pirates.gamers can be classified in a ton of categories like free to play gamers, pay to win gamers, pay to play gamers(subscription pay games)and pay for the game gamers that are on steam, uplay, origin, desura, gog or even retail. And last but not least, people that pirate everything.

OFC you can have a person that is part of one or more of these categories but the statement that you shouldn't put money into PC gaming just because 90% of the gamers are pirate is complete bullshit and shouldn't be taken seriously. You can pirate console games just as easily as PC games but Ubisoft is just trying to search for an excuse for their incompetence.

Yeah, every developer/publisher says this, if their game is an untested unoptimized shit.

Permalink

They are currently running a beta test with thousands of tester. It's called "selling w/o extensive testing and throwing around untested hotfixes as the publisher sees fit".

a sad but common practice nowadays.

especially if you consider that a lot of software tests could be automated and don't neccessarily need a lot of human testers.

You mean something like this?

Now that's quite impressive. Hope the rest of the developers will follow this trend (if they don't yet). Less testing workhours spent = more money to actually improve the features, concept and story of the game.

Idk, they can't make one THAT complicated bot, which will test every little shit in the game. The human players can do such idiot things you can not think of, so the devs can not think of them either - > they can't program them into the bot.

That's why I wrote "don't neccessarily need a lot of human testers".

Sure, you'll still need humans to test your products, but testing quest progression, frame rate behaviour, general game mechanics and such could be done more efficiently by a bot.

Guys, its a business, its about the money. They know the actual numbers and dont really care about fixing them (pc sales). This is happening in every market with every product. There are a few golden ducklings between, some companies that generally care and believe they can achieve greatness with honesty and putting the customer first.

All Im saying is, the root problem in the system - the profit motive.

The 90% quote that Ubi likes to throw around is from an old global study, and it included countries like China and India, where piracy was in the high nineties. (And, yes, piracy of console games is very high in those countries too.) In that same study, the West averaged 30%, with the US being the low at under 20%.

Oh look: the "Some do it therefore all of them do it" logical fallacy that leads to radical feminists declaring all men rapists, or that proclaims all white males are sexist and inherently racist because of the color of my skin. Some times DRM is a reason to pirate, not protection from it... In general I don't use pirated software, but... I buy MS Visio for Office 365 (I have Office 365 Small Business as well), but I can't active it more then week and I waste a lot of time with ** MS support!!! And today I finaly give up and install pirated version... because I need it ASAP to finish my project, I'm about week in delay... I'm not filling as pirate, because I buy it and I'll remove it after I finaly actiave my legal copy, but it's very disturbing, that it's easy to install pirated version, then legal...

You know how to stop pirating? Give them incentive to buy the original. Example: FIFA 15. If you torrent it, you only have offline mode which is 40% of the game. There's online, online master league, ULTIMATE TEAM which is the game's biggest mode. Make them WANT to have the original, not just impose stupid protection which does more bad to the ones who give the money than those who do not. Pretty simple. Yves just fucked himself, because he basically will lose 90% of the Eastern European gaming audience, if he goes on like this.

That's not incentivizing, that's forcing. They're crippling their games to turd to make you buy them.

Give us quality, be less shitty and stop penetrating your games with DLC from the first minute on and we buy your games. Be EA and we won't. The moment I see a pre-release with early access, review embargo, no demo and DLC announced before release, I put it on my "maybe on sale" list.

You can count the number of pirated downloads of your game on PC.

You can't do that on PS/XBOX.

Pirates are everywhere, there are more percentage of PS3 owners pirate games than PC owners in my country.

Devs looking at the number of downloads on a torrent site, slavering while counting his money.I just want to puch those greedy assholes, break their jaw and make them SHUT THE FUCK UP ABOUT PIRATES.
