Just going through some of my library and some Early access games I have or had on my wishlists to see that a lot of them are abandoned.. yet Steam has no quality control... and this guy is just sitting on his fat ass raking in the money like a fat uncle scrooge Mc Duck

Quality control... xD Steam abandonned Greenlight in favor of the 100 bucks per game release through steam direct ^^

Greenlight just didn't work either. Apparently some people in control of Greenlight were pushing stuff through that had more downvotes than upvotes.

It's true that it didn't and got abused but it had at least some measure of quality control

AFAIK the number of downvotes didn't matter. As long as a game got x number of upvote it was through.

Don't give him any ideas. It's not the Empire State Building.

TIL that Gabe Newell is solely responsible for every game on Steam.

But I guess it's easier to use the single most visible person at Valve as a scapegoat than acknowledge that Steam's problems result from deep-seated problems at Valve and in the game community at large and can't just be boiled down to one guy's greed.

I would say it's one of the CEO's duties to avoid and solve deep-seated problems in the business he runs though.

So yeah, I do hold Gabe himself personally responsible for at least part of Steam's issues.

It's one thing to hold him personally responsible for part of Steam's issues (I actually agree with you there); it's another to assume that he, personally, makes every single decision in the company, which is what this type of kvetching amounts to.

Or, to put it another way, placing all the blame on Gaben lets the other people who are involved in those decisions get off scot-free just because they're not as visible.

^ That. Our lord and savior Gaben may be a CEO, but I have noticed that in companies those who are supposed to be managing, don't know all that much what goes on below them. Some do, to some extent, but they are often dependent on those next in the 'chain of command' below them for updates. It is quite possible that some information never arrives. Or even if it does, it is expected that other employees are supposed to deal with it. After all, it is not the CEO's job to do the work for the people; he hired them to do specific tasks so he can focus on other things (hopefully that illusive HL 3, if it is up to the Gordon starved fans).

fat uncle scrooge Mc Duck

Scrooge McDuck is portrayed as being obsessively hard-working, perceptively intelligent as far as business matters, and all around focused around quality production. Moreover, he always capitulates and helps out the less fortunate by the end of any storyline along that topic.

Even other versions of Ebeneezer Scrooge are generally portrayed as business-saavy, with an emphasis of putting too much attention on business at the expense of social interactions (and thereby, not lazy).

The new Ducktales is quite good- maybe it's time for you to grab onto some Duck Tales (woo-oo!)

This.

It amazes me when I see people complaining about games they don't want being made available to them. It's not like they get added to your cart while you're not looking.

Ok but how about early access games? You like the game concept, you want to help out development. A year or two down the line game gets abandon... whoops nothing we could do.. I'm just saying with business practices like this Steam should at least monitor Dev's and have like a 3 strike system or something in line to keep these shady practices from continuing. I'm sure we all read about these Earl access dev's or even full releases that are incomplete or filled with bugs with promises of updates and patches and only to have them abandon and Dev's moving onto new projects

exactly like you said. Kickstarter is more of a promise. So you're buying a piece of IOU of sorts where as steam is an actual store front so you are buying a product. I do agree that there is always a potential of games being abandon just irks me when they make promises and don't come thru. Or at least instead of keeping abandon games on their store have a tag saying abadonware like how they have the tags for genres.
