Especially on Steamtrades , it doesn't matter if you put a fucking +rep at the end of your positive comment on someone's profile , or is there some site that counts +reps on profiles ?

Negative rep gets deleted, while positive rep can be added by randomers or by multi accounts. If you trust profile rep, you probably deserve to get scammed.

I sometimes put random +reps on people pages I don't know, then when they message me I thank them for the train simulator bundle they traded me for bad rats.

I always find you a little weird.. not an insult or something to get offended, just an observation. I like it

No it doesn't. I can go onto your profile and leave a fake one right now.

Proves nothing, there are sites that are more legit for checking this though.

I can go on the other site and give you fake +rep there then. :D

Nope. Any negatives can be deleted.

There isn't anymore, since the person can delete negative comments.

Was used before easy-to-use rep sites existed.

I keep my profile rep for the timestamps mostly, so you can tell I have been trading for a while. Sometimes from big traders it might be useful also.

Profile rep is completely meaningless. Don't trust it. Not only can you easily delete negative comments so that only positive ones remain, but loads of dishonest traders rep eachother all the time. Some people even rep themselves with their own alts. Unless you see a well known and trustworthy trader leave a rep comment, disregard it completely. I deny any and all requests for me to leave rep on someone's profile and I have my comment permissions set to disallow anyone leaving comments. People still offer to exchange rep with me all the time.

Disregard steam profile rep. It's totally unimportant. Instead you should be looking at things like age of account, playtime, number of games, steamrep status, and rep threads on places like sourceop and other reputable sites. As someone with extensive experience in trading, I can tell you that profile rep absolutely does NOT matter at all and should not be taken as evidence that someone is trustworthy. Quite the opposite. On close examination, it can often be used as reason to suspect someone is NOT a trustworthy person.

You can't fake rep. If the rep comes from account with 0-5 games its fake for sure, but for example 50 +reps from accounts with 50+ games its not fake at all.

Friends or trading +reps...

For me it is useful only if I recognize someone.

although it is true that +reps on your profile can be fake ones you posted with alts, it would take much time and money to make 100+ alts, getting $100 worth of games (bundle games dont add to account value on S.Trades and S.Gifts, so they all have to be non-bundle games), and posting a comment with each of them. I'm quite sure no-one on S.trades has done this.

+reps on steam profiles means nothing.

On Steam doesn't mean anything I guess. On SteamTrades or SteamRep it does, but on SteamTrades always check if the one who got a lot of reps, got one from someone you know or have common friends with so you can ask him if they really trade (if you doubt).

Last year I traded some TF2 items with a guy. His account was brand new, not even a week old with only 2 friends, but he had a bunch of valuable TF2 items (with only a few hours playing the game). He asked me to give him a +rep and stay on his friendlist. He was polite and the trade went well, so I did so, but I watched him afterwards. In a couple of weeks he had 100+ friends and 5-6 pages of "+rep". I'm not saying that he was a scammer, but it's really easy to make a second account, put your TF2 items there, be nice and polite for 2 weeks and after that you have your perfect reputation and nobody would believe that such a trustworthy trader could be a scammer. (Eventually I deleted him and my comment.)

I have some rep on steam trades and it was really helpful but I agree the rep from my steam profile is useless, I keep it because I like having lots of comments on my profile, it makes me feel important XD

I trade when I have stuff I don't need. Most of the people I trade with give me rep on my Steam profile, it's not really big of a deal to me. But sometimes it makes me think of all of the successful trades I've made so it's a good thing, I guess.
