After around 180 hours of game time, I finally got 100% of the trophies for Fallout 3 GOTY. I'm not sure if I should be excited or depressed at how much time went into this...

Both have good points.

Fallout 3

  • Better locations
  • Better music

New Vegas

  • Better everything else

Since I mostly like to wander around and loot, 3 can be considered better for that. When I want to replay a story, New Vegas all the way.

I don't understand how people think Fallout 3 had better locations. I remember a great number of varied locations from New Vegas, and when I think of Fallout 3, the only thing that strikes me as memorable are those damned awful subway tunnels and the Tranquility Lane simulation. O_o

I actually have New Vegas Ultimate Edition staring me down. I'm not sure if I can handle another lifetime of finishing one of these. I've finished Fallout 1, 2, Tactics BoS, BoS on Xbox, and now 3 GOTY. NV:UE is my only untouched...

I loved Brotherhood of Steel on consoles. It was my first Fallout game. Then again, I'm biased towards it because I also love the rest of the games made with that game engine. Own 7 of the 8, with only the Paratroopers game missing, since it wasn't released here.

I enjoyed how gray and boring the story and world was in Fallout 3. I wish they would've added more subways walk around in.

I know! The worst thing about New Vegas was how great it was.

To be fair though, that shit was not so much gray as it was green. Green as hell.

I put in 450+ hours into New Vegas.

Granted nearly 50 of that was getting all the mods to work right!

Congratulations.

Unfortunately for you, New Vegas has some pretty ridiculous achievements and if you ever attempt it, well, it'll take a long time.

Really, though... Damage for melee / unarmed? Who even plays like that?

Actually one of the power fists are very good. I may be thinking of new vegas, but melee weapons are sometimes quite powerful.

If you have the DLCs in New Vegas, sure. Maybe worth making a melee character. Fallout 3? Not so much. FONV's biggest problem is the fact that everybody uses guns of some sort. Unless you get a mod that adds good melee weapons ( E.g. Classic fallout weapons for the super sledge and other melee weapons ), you're better off going guns or energy, then putting into melee bit-by-bit. Even the Ripper got nerfed, and that was a pretty good weapon.

Yeah, deffo not in FO3. I just checked my achievements there on my xbox and I only managed to get the unarmed one for new vegas. Can't remember what weapon I used now but I was sure it was a power fist. But I would NEVER make a pure unarmed or melee character, so yeah, I agree.

Stealth players. All melee weapons in New Vegas are silent. I have a save where my character was focused on Strength and Endurance. Poor guy was dumb as a brick though, I only gave him 1 INT.

I also thought the stealth system was faulty. I had a high stealth once, got detected most of the time. Might have just been the armour I was wearing, or lighting, but stealth never worked for me.

Would be something on your end. Not sure if armour makes noise, but my guy never had detection problems.

When i saw you post about achievments i thought you'd say something like: Win 30 caravan games & Get banned from every casino... I mean sheeesh... do not take into account that those achievments (+hardcore) are the only ones i yet have to obtain.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, yeah, those achievements are pretty hard, I guess. I never really attempted them, to be honest.

There are tutorial videos for Caravan on youtube. Thanks to them, I win most of my games.

As for getting banned from every casino, just make a 10 luck character and make it to each casino. Play the slots. You'll stay profitable, and eventually win big.

You can pwn Deathclaws with a Ballistic Fist, even on Very Hard difficulty! With a high level of Sneak, you can even kill the Legendary Deathclaw of New Vegas with 2-3 hits! I'd suggest trying it out but you seem more of the gun-toting type!

Well, sure, because it's just more fun to gun someone down from far away.

And only a few of the melee weapons, not including DLC, are actually good. It's just not very good to attempt early on, since early on you can even get the cowboy repeater, or an assault rifle and take down anyone you'll meet ( including legion. Yes, legion. The vanilla legion soldiers aren't even that good ).

I'd attempt a melee character if it was at least worth it. At least half the game would be me getting gunned down before I even reached the enemy, or in enclosed areas taking at least a little bit of damage and having to constantly heal.

That being said, I actually did my first hardcore playthrough on a melee character, so I probably shouldn't say that I absolutely hate it.

Once I was a high level in Fallout 3 I used to hand out beatdowns all the time. I used Plunkett's Valid Points in VATS with the Paralyzing Palm perk and lots of AP boosts so that chances of a paralyze triggering were almost guaranteed. Then I'd creep up behind the target for the sneak attack bonus and hand out some assault and battery. By the time VATS was concluded the target was usually on the ground where I could continue the beating without fear of reprisal.

I didn't do this to save ammo. I did this because yeah I just beat your ass with my fists, Mr. Super Mutant Overlord.
