Glen Cook's The Black Company

Has anyone read this series of books? I picked up the first of them this evening; after sixty-odd pages, it hasn't grabbed me yet. I read that the characters are the best part of this series, but none of them are interesting so far. I try to give every book a minimum hundred pages before setting it aside, so I've not lost hope yet.
