No problem Cliff. It had to be said, really. I get that question all the time, and I can't blame people for asking. I mean, I have the DVD collection of a 5 year old, so people aren't surprised when I get into animated films or shows. But MLP has become a phenomenon, and it confuses a lot of people. BobbyDigi was the same way in our Images of overloads of ponies thread - once he realized we weren't sitting around watching the show from the 80's, a lightbulb went off in his head.

I LOVED Past Sins. But I still wouldn't recommend it to someone who has a negative view of fanfiction in general, because people's opinions of it are incredibly polarized. Everyone either loves it or loathes it, nobody thinks it's just 'alright'. I'd stick to recommending Progress, as BHHammy said. It's funny, and it's got that episodic feel to it, which people who like the show but haven't gotten into fanfiction would probably appreciate.

Due to the nature of the first 3 series (Which, to put it lightly - Were freakishly bad), MANY criticize those who watch the new series with the public perception of the originals. As you yourself said "It is not a bad show". Telling this to pretty much anyone who has nothing to draw on but the original would generally bring the semi-stereotypical "Lol, you like a show for little girls, you pedophiliac zoophile", which in turn would potentially lead to you informing them of the reasons that "It is not a bad show", which in turn which generally lead to the "But they're PONIES!!!" reply, and so on, and so forth. This back and forth due to the blatant misunderstanding of something has become so significant that the people defending the show have become an incredibly close-knit community, as they are primarily rejected for their liking by general society.

Actually, Hasbro's been very happy with this sort of thing being sold. I'm pretty sure other companies tend to be okay with it too.

Same reason why other decent cartoons (Dexters Lab, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Powerpuff Girls, Fosters Home, etc) are famous - Fantastic animation (Bar the odd... Hiccup), well thought out and developed characters, and general all-round goodness :)

Not true. I friend of mine is talkin only about those ponies, so I desided to see them. He said " usually people get addicted to them after the first episode." I watched it, it was a normal cartoon, chieldish, nothing inovative or impresive. There was no humor that someone 5-6+ would enjoy. So I understand if all kids are creazy about it, but all 15-25 males? Strange the least.
Also having broni as avatar? I would be ashamed to do such thing, rly. Its ponies. Go play with dolls while watching romantic movies and doing your makeup?
