I just bought F1 2012 and noticed it don't use GFWL, unlike it's predecessor. Same for some recent Microsoft games from Xbox live, like Deadlight or Mark of the Ninja. Resident Evil 6, unlike Operation Racoon City, doesn't seen to use it either - I'd apreciate it if anyone can confirm this, since I don't own them.
Personally, I'd be glad to see GFWL dead and buried.

I heard that, but I assumed they would create another brand or service for W8.

They will probably launch it with the next xbox.

That would be a terrible strategy seeing as W8 is already out :S

We can only hope. They won't let me into my account on GFWL nor help me in anyway to fix it, so I'm glad to see it go.

I hope so. I still have Episodes of Liberty City on hold because I hate to log on GFWL just for SP

I haven't had any problems myself with the majority of my games using Games for Windows Live, but Batman: Arkham City wasn't accepting my account earlier until I disabled the Automatic Login option. Rather frustrating, since it took me a while before I tried with other options, assuming I was still having internet problems (since SecuROM activation had already given me an error because of my connection causing problems a few minutes before this).

Or as I've seen in a complaint topic on another forum...

"Dark Souls uses Games for Windows Live, and I've never had any problems."
"Well, you see, I'm not being rewarded with Dark Souls after logging into Games for Windows Live."

F1 2012 is games for windows, not games for windows live. They aren't the same thing.

I'm fully aware of the difference, but that's not what I was saying. What I was saying was: game franchises that used to have GFWL as DRM (like RE and F1) don't have it anymore. Maybe they gave up DRM-ing new games.

That doesnt even make sense...

Just because some games switched over to steam doesnt mean that GfWL stopped being DRM. Its still there and lazy devs continue to use it.

GFWL didn't stop being DRM. It still works in its previous titles. But I don't see any new titles being released with GFWL. That's what I want to know: did they stop DRM-ing new games?

That choice is down to the dev/pub not gfwl. The latest games where test drive Ferrari racing legends and ace combat assualt horizon. Microsoft don't actively promote gfwl anymore but it is still available for use in new games and they still maintain a support team for the service.

And for those assuming its all lazy devs its more about attempting to tap into the console market as the achievements/stats/controls and such ate all linked to one account.

No, the reason why they are using GfWL is that it makes the porting process easier. Thats all. Latest example of devs stating that: Dark Souls.

Considering Arkham City uses both, its far more likely it will keep it.

Now, the SecuROM they also use in Arkham City, that is something to be removed.

I know you're curious but please stop saying its name or it may come back from the dead. Let's just pretend we have no idea what's going on and keep playing games with a smile on our face
