My brother got one yesterday and another friend today.
Basically they both followed the instructions by talking to the EA chat support and getting their Veteran status fixed, then they signed up to the newsletter.
EA chat support have no leverage in you getting an alpha pass nor do they know the amount of passes still available. You could talk to one and another would give you a different number.
Basically it's very random, they want a selection of users. Even people with complete vet status ie Vet8 may not get the game.

That is the beta early release for MoH Limited Edition owners. All others will be able to play the beta a few days later apparently.
This is the Alpha which is an unfinished run to playtest the game. Completely unfinished and primarily only designed to test for easy player abuse regarding different weapons to unsure that no particular gun is a ganker.

I got a key from an Intro Competition on Youtube. The game doesn't seem to like my pc, it lags alot, even on low, I can play with some 30 FPS, but it can get down to 10-15 and even 5. I can't have much fun with it when it lags, at least, now, I know not to buy it yet.

EA: No, it does not matter in the case of battlefield 3 alpha invitation.
EA: It might be possible that also get an invitation but still there is no guarantee about it as it is totally an automated process.
Me: so you could keep going onto the alpha invitation website and keep submitting?
Me: or does it just automatically send it out to your email?
EA: It is an automatic process.
