Gaben figured along the way - selling games, is more profitable than developing games ... smart man.
(DOTA2 some comp. they bought, CSGO - hiddenpath they've contracted, TF2/HL2/P2 or more were made by them still)

Gone are the days of spending hours browsing Electronics Boutique (aka EB Games aka Gamestop) looking for the perfect game, then paying full price for it.

Now I can do all that without ever putting pants on. XD

Gaben would never "Release the hounds". Doing it himself would take effort. He'd rather dream up some scheme where the community decides when it's time to release the hounds, and to actually breed and feed said hounds.

End-result will be a bunch of vaguely dog-shaped pinatas with some cheap voice-recording chip supplying the barks. Because if there's anything to be learned from the grand Greenlight experiment, it's that neither Valve nor the community at large can get hings right.

By the looks of the announcements, green-light is soon going to be a whole lot less accessible,
and the problem weed itself out along with very few gems probably - or find a new home > desura 2.0.

If you mean the Steam Direct announcements, that means greenlight is going away entirely. Because even Valve finally noticed that it was a Bad Idea.
That means no more community involvement - which was poisoned by trolls and shady boost groups building shady businesses anyway, so at this point that's no real loss, and a submission fee per game which hopefully will weed out the worst of the shovelware. (I do hope the fee isn't too high to keep the smaller and weirder project out, but high enough that the lazy asset flipping for card sales profitz loses it's profitability)
