Already having Game, using still Gift link for same game - What happens?

Hey,

just have this question... There's currently a discussion between me and some other friends in steam... Everyone has a different opinion about what would happen :/
Do you know maybe what will happen?

I think It would say product already owned, and it wont be activated.

If the game has ANY changes in it's name, it WILL register it again, making the gift link unavailable. For example: You have activated a ROW copy of a game, and then you get a key with a WW title. Then it will activate it as another game, wasting your key.

If it's a different sub, it'll activate. If it's the same sub, it won't activate.

afaik. This only happens if there's different languages or other data (low violence) ("depots") included.

Two options:

  • Steam will say the product is already owned. Gift link is still ok if you want to give it to someone else.

  • Gift will be used and activate on your profile even if you own it.
