Make the newcomers read the FAQ and then answer a few questions which if they answer correctly they can enter the site. They can't sign up until they answered everything correctly.

i did once. defender's quest's. it was not that boring because it was not just plain wall of text. there were some explanations in a casual way. maybe sg would do something like that too. along with a quiz at the sign-up process, i think it would help people alot.

I would say more to the no side. My points as below:

  1. People would do the quiz, and still not get the important stuff into their heads. Not all of us are like that, but there's a good number that are.
  2. People would leak the answers somewhere, making my first point even more useful here. Sure, there could be measures to get content providers to take down the answers, but somewhere sometime, someone would post them cause of douchebaggery.

I thought of that:

  1. Can't argue with that, but at least most people will get the info, which is what I was aiming for.
  2. Even if they do leak the answers, they would have to read them in order to answer the quiz, and it may teach them a thing or two even if they don't read the FAQ. And besides, who would google the answers if it doesn't really take that long to read the FAQ?

And maybe randomize the question order?

Exactly what I had in mind.

I totally agree, even if they cheat they have to read the questions and the answers at least once, which would essentially be the same as reading the FAQ.

I dunno, seemed like this was the most popular choice from that thread. I just hope all our polls and stuff with suggestions about the site actually get seen/acted on

If they do we will have to wait a lot of time for that to happen.
