I'm giving away three Humble keys for Letter Quest on PC/Mac. All you have to do to enter is retweet this tweet.

Also don't miss out on the Shovel Knight giveaway that I'm currently doing! Such an amazing game!

If you have a minute, please consider voting for Letter Quest on Greenlight - thanks!

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to get a game noticed on Greenlight these days without resorting to giving away free copies to everyone that votes/joins a Steam group (I refuse to do that, defeats the entire purpose of Greenlight in my opinion!).

Oh, and Letter Quest is a completely finished game, and it's already for sale at several places. I'm really trying to get it onto Steam though, since a lot of people will only buy from Steam!

Thank you everyone, and good luck in the contest and giveaway! Cheers!

This looks like a bunch of fun! Voted for you.

I guess giveaways/competitions are good, since everybody likes free stuff. I guess also funny trailers, so people will link to them their friends. And maybe give free copies to popular streamers, so that it gets free publicity?

Thank you for the vote!

And thank you for the advice! I'd like to do a really funny/interesting trailer, just don't have the money at the moment to pay someone...nor the talent to do it myself lol.

Yeah, I've been sending some emails with free copies to popular streamers, hoping some of them give the game some coverage. :)

Games that ppl really like/love, get on Greenlight without any help of "vote for our trash and get it for free", if your game is enough "good" for the public, for the any concept of "good" has each person, or a guy like Pewdiepie played(example of Viscera Cleanup) it will go on Steam without problems, games that I honestly voted on Greenlight got their way to Steam without any Greenlight abuse system, these game truly deserved to be on Steam though.

Edit: For example: Akaneiro: Demon Hunters(wasn't that good after all as I expected, but still nice), Long Live The Queen, Unturned, WORLD END ECONOMiCA, Among the Sleep, etc I think these games deserved completely going to Steam. Your game don't need to look like super awesome "next gen" game, you just need to make something that ppl would love.

I would agree with you up until about a month ago, when tons of people started doing the "vote for our game, get it free" stuff - now the number of votes needed is ridiculously inflated due to these guys coming along and getting thousands of votes per day, more than almost any other game can get. It's a disappointing system.

If ppl love the game they're voting and see it's good, they will end up buying it on Steam after, and for most of the ppl won't regret doing this, I will buy the games I voted honestly on Greenlight, not for full price, but on a good sale yes(I dont buy any games for full price), and I won't think that other developers could give free keys and these didn't, since their game is truly great that really deserved to be on Steam.

I saw some developers of Gravi where doing lots of giveaways here on Steamgift, promoting their game, and they went successfully to Steam after some time, also they put their game once on bundle too.

I didn't now that this Greenlight exploit was already hurting other Greenlight devs that much by inflating needed votes. I hope Steam does something about this...some day.

Thank you for pointing that out, it's really helpful to see that other developers are doing something similar (doing giveaways on here and pointing to their Greenlight page). Those guys gave away a lot of games, that's awesome! :)

And I agree, I tend to buy a lot of the Greenlight games that I voted yes for when they make it to Steam.

I find that most people like Letter Quest, and vote yes for it, it's just getting enough people to look at the Greenlight page that has been hard for me! Steamgifts has been really helpful for helping me with that. :)

I really hope Steam does something about the "free game" craziness too. It really is causing a big problem, because it's letting terrible "games" get onto Steam, and also making it hard for others to get through...which kinda defeats the purpose of the whole thing.

Not all games from this "vote and get it for free" are trash as I said before :P, just some games come from greedy devs/publishers that abuse Greenlight to have their old bugged games on Steam that nobody gonna play(like Heavy Fire Afghanistan, some truck racing game that played Totalbiscuit, don't remember name, etc) or games that everybody can play for free on any Newgrounds flash games site like Final Slam 2(that cost 7€ on Steam), and not even fixing bugs, optimizing, etc their games, since they do it only to continue getting money. Obviously other devs just don't have other choice, and most of these devs do their work optimizing, fixing, etc their games after they get to Steam, even if they got through this abuse system.

For sure, some of the games doing the free copies are actual, legitimately good (or at least passably decent lol) games. I'm more upset with the ones that are nothing more than some terrible screenshots and/or a very rough concept that was thrown together in an hour. ;)

I already voted it as I saw your link in one of your giveaways. So I guess doing giveaways for games people want works. :P I think your game doesn't need any "vote forcing", as it looks really nice!

Thank you for voting! Yeah, so far doing giveaways for really new/popular games is working well (although it's going to get expensive considering I'm kinda broke lol).

And thank you for the kind words about Letter Quest! It seems to get a lot of yes votes, and people at least trying the demo once they find out it exists...still trying to get some big name press sites (Rock Paper Shotgun, Kotaku, Destructoid, etc.) to write about the game, but no luck so far! Will keep trying!

Voted and RTed. The game looks good, especially when you compare it to the tons of bad greenlit games

Little question if you're still around: After trying the web demo it feels like the keyboard support is a must on PC, clicking the letters feels very "mobile". Is that what you mean by "● Hot-key support (configurable in-game)"?

Already vote, but I think your best bet is just by getting the name out there. I know once I seen the Shovel Quest GA, I noticed the game, checked it out, voted, then sent my friends over there to check it out, many of who have also voted. Also, if you can, shop it around to the big youtube/twitch guys. I always hated the whole, "Vote for my game, get a free steam key" thing, but I think giving out a few free copies to people who do "Let's Plays" or have large video game channels is a great move.

Best of luck with the game, I am sure you'll have no problem getting it greenlit. Looks better then a lot of the stuff I've seen get passed through, that's for sure!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate you spreading the word too, that's awesome!

I'll definitely try giving out some keys to the big youtube and twitch people, see if I can get some coverage. It's a bit tricky since it takes a certain kind of personality to make it an interesting game to stream/watch, because some people will just sit there thinking of words which is really boring to watch lol (but fun to play).

I'm hoping it gets Greenlit soon, would be very helpful to be on Steam! Cheers! :)

Just letting everyone know that the twitter contest for 3 copies of Letter Quest via Humble keys (including the full game soundtrack, 8 songs of pseudo-chiptune-y goodness!) is open for another 90 minutes! Best of luck to everyone, winners will be announced at 6 pm CST on twitter and in this thread. :)
