Unless you have been living under a rock, and that’s not a bad thing in today’s world, you would have seen the recent announcement by the Crowbar Collective that work on Xen is progressing well.

They have released a couple of plan screenshots for you to get excited about.

As soon as they did that, I started to wonder how many people would pay for early access, so that’s what this poll question about.

Players who have the mod version will not be getting the new levels, so if you haven’t bought the game yet, I highly recommend it. In addition, it allows you to play all of the maps released, whereas the mod version doesn’t.

+1, game's worth it imo, they did a good job reimagining HL... I'm curious what they'll do with Xen :>

So, uhm, what is Xen? Looks like it is something about Black Mesa, which I assume is some fan project related to Half-Life; but that announcement announced it is a thing, and googling returned nothing but a lot of articles on Xen servers.

The amounts I care about Half-Life after HL2 and its assorted non-finished little things, can be measured my an electron-microscope only.
Although it is a bit intriguing that a fan recreation project—something that is normally distributed for free—is asking 20 bucks for a remake that apparently isn't even finished yet. And has high ratings and sales. Someone who studies marketing and still didn't drink themselves to stupor could probably write a thesis about that.

Xen is the alien dimension in Half-Life 1, where you get to shoot a Giant Enemy Crab in the oversized testicle and shoot a huge baby in the brain.
It's also known as "the last chapter of the game, where it turns to crap before the end credits"

Yeah, I recall it vaguely. It has been 16-17 years since I played HL1. I mostly remember the large complex and not much about the last levels.

You mean like paying for early access and then paying for early access to content I paid for in early access? Yes, I would do that if I wanted to look insane or astonishingly stupid.

But it is related to a Valve game, so you should pay to unlock the payment button first to show how true of a fan you really are. ^-^

There was some early access game recently that added a paid DLC, it sounds like that. IIRC, it wasn't met with great enthusiasm…

I didn't really like the Xen levels so not only would I not pay for them, I'm going to avoid them for free. What a bargain.
