I'm trying to do that, but it's not as easy as you would think. P

So let me get this straight. Thankfest is 12 days long going from Sept 21 to Oct 2 this year. This begs to question dose Thankkfest always start on the 21st? or is it the 3rd sunday of Sept?
The milkshake is the official beverage of Thankfest
It is traditional to give gifts to others during thankfest. The phrase "Giftpile on _____" before doing so.
And at some point it's tradition to cover yourself in grease and fleece a sheep
Am I missing anything else?

Actually, the fleecing of sheep is not part of Thankfest, nor is covering oneself in oil. (Fleecing a sheep will get you oily due to the lanolin from the sheep's fleece.) That was just a digression from the main discussion.
As for the timing, I merely picked the last part of September to avoid the other holidays/occasions in the months of October through December. I picked twelve days because I had a bunch of games to give away and there was a catchy tune to go with it. I picked the milkshake because most people enjoy them, and you feel contentment after drinking one (as opposed to getting drunk and winding up with a hangover).
Regarding "giftpile," that is something that is separate from Thankfest and may be done at any time by anyone.

Damned but I oiled myself up real good in preparation for the festivities? :(

Yeah, I suppose it would be different if you were in the Southern hemisphere. P

Fall equinox was on the 23rd at 02:29 UT the only places the date would be different be
a) between the tropics of Cancer and Capricorn (as seasons don't exist there)
b) In the Americas, which are for the most part GMT -3 or greater (not sure if I have to adjust for daylight savings or not, I could check but I am lazy) the equinox occurs on the 22, the rest of the world the 23rd

What about those parts of the world whose seasons are the opposite of those in the USA?

As far as I know they still have the fall equinox there, it's just that it's there shortest day. I never checked, but I believe the names stay the same no mater where you are, just if you are in Australia(for example) summer is the cold month and winter is the warm. Any pwoplw here live in the southern hemisphere? correct me if I am wrong.

In October, some people celebrate All Hallows Eve. In November, Thanksgiving. In December, Christmas. And as part of the celebrations, they give each other gifts. Well, I don't celebrate any of those holidays, but I enjoy giving gifts, too. For that reason, and so as to not get lost in all of the rampant gift-giving which is to come, I thought I would do my giving in September. This evening seems like a good time to start.
Hear Ye, Hear Ye!

DON'T FORGET THE GIFTPILE ADD-ONS IN THE COMMENTS SECTION!
Thankfest is winding down....
While there is still the option of adding onto the giftpile, the main giveaways have all been posted and the clock is ticking down. I hope you all have had an enjoyable Thankfest---I know I have---and are feeling noticeably more cheerful as a result. Songs were sung, milkshakes were drunk, and gifts were given away. We certainly had plenty for which to be thankful, and it is hoped that the good cheer will linger on, even after the event is over.
Thank you to all who participated, and I look forward to doing this again, sometime.
---Khalaq
