Why not make it an option for a certain number of slots to be included in a giveaway to increase one's chance of winning a giveaway? First come first serve :D

Guess that's what private, group & contributor giveaways are for?

But that doesn't limit the number of slots. It means less people can enter, but if there's 1000 contributors, then you can still have 1000 people enter that giveaway. He means, an option to make it so that a giveaway can have only like, 100 slots for example, so then only 100 people can actually join.

This has been mentioned before and it'll never be added for a number of reasons. First come first served is a bad idea and would encourage the use of bots or automated tools. If you want to limit who enters your giveaway then make it private.

but, why would you need a limit on a private giveaway? The only people that should be entering are the people you gave the link to. No one else.

That would be awesome.

i think it'd gradually decrease the number of people that come on here therefore decreasing the number of giveaways (imagine all th slots filled while you were sleeping before you ev en know there is a giveaway or the rush to enter a precreated giveaway like getting there for a black friday sale)

I think there was a similar suggestion a few days ago(the last suggestion like this). The only difference was the word used.Slots here,Max number of entries there....I'd say that there is no need for something like this but my opinion is just my opinion...

Similar to what TF2R does.

We already implemented a 'rep' type system with the contributor thing -- but I like ours better than the rep thing they do.

I support this

Just set it to an hour, if that still gets to many entries set it to an hour and make it for only people who contributed such and such amount.

with such a system it'd make sense to have them end when filled, so many wouldn't even last an hour :-P

And who exactly would benefit from such a feature, and why should they?

(I try to ask this everytime someone suggests this, and I'm still waiting for the Ultimate Answer that would convince me this is a must-have feature...)

Right now, if you check the site once an hour, you can't miss out on any (public, non-contributor) giveaways. If there were limited-slot giveaways, that would mean both that those would be more desirable due to the better odds and that you'd have to enter very quickly in order not to miss the chance. So those would be an incentive to keep obsessively refreshing the main page. I don't think that would be a good thing.

If a giveaway is still getting too many entries, making it open for only one hour, specific to a group, contributor-only, or private can all serve to further limit that number. Given the number of different groups available and the different ways to distribute the private giveaway URL, that's already a lot of flexibility.

This has been suggested quite a few times already, and it's still a bad idea.

Using slots would only benefit people who lurk the site all day long and it would encourage botting to ensure getting in before the giveaway is full.

With the number of giveaways that're created and closed in few hours when I sleep (Belgian), if there's a slot limit... It's not because you don't work or be paid to do nothing and can go check every seconds that others are in the same case of you. It's not really fair and placing "First come, first serve", this is just to show us how much you're idea is childish (I mean, who really said that since he/she/it learns how to go to toilets alone?)... So please, let the people have a life and don't ask things like this!

Yeah, I was a bit rude, but I think about people who work and can't be here all day long like others or even me. It's not very fair-play and forcing people to become no-lifes by always check steamgifts, I think the idea is just awful. And, it's true about the "First come, first serve". I stopped using it in the end of elementary school...

"This suggestion would mean that I'd miss out, so it's a terrible suggestion and I'll personally attack the OP for making it."

And you call other people are childish.

No, I would not miss out nothing, I don't have a job. But, I'm "fair-play", I think that, even if I can be here all day, a lot of people can't. So, maybe I'm childish, but apparently, I'm not selfish...

No.

When giveaways are created it gives points to all players except the creator. Making a giveaway only have a certain number of slots available disproportionately cuts off all the points given. People who have enough points, won't be able to enter. That defeats the whole purpose of having points in the first place. This is not TF2R.
