So a guy offered me a trade, 2 keys for 2 games and I accepted... I agreed to go first as on his steam profile he had 60+ Postive rep and had completed over a thousand trades. However, when I went first he went blocked me...

I know it's only two keys but I've never been scammed before and it's pretty much all I have... Is there anything I can to get my keys back, or anyway I can give this guy some -Rep on his profile or anywhere...?

Edit: Thanks to everyone who commented! Thank you all for the help and advice, maybe I can use some of it next time and not get scammed so easily :D

Potato?!

First of all: Profile rep means nothing. I have a few friends, who added me rep on my profile for no reason, so alway strust SteamTrades rep before accepting a trade. Support can't help, unless the whole trade happened through the trade window. So you are basically screwed. You can give him a -rep, because he scammed you undoubtedly, but unfortunately that's the only thing you can do. You might have a chance at Steam Support, but they are slow as hell, and the chance, that they will actually return your items, are pretty low.

I can't -rep him because he blocked me... But I'll guess I'll open a ticket on steam support and hope they can do something, doubt they will though

lol. yeah, you do that. next time check the rep on steamgifts. i guess you saw from first hand why you can't trust rep on steam profiles. if you still didn't get it, it's BECAUSE YOU CAN'T GIVE BLOODY -REP IF THEY DON'T WANT YOU TO.

Steam Support won't do anything for you.. it doesn't concern them since you didn't trade in the Steam trade window.
What you can do is report him as a scammer from his profile page. If many people do so he might end up with some trade suspension or something like that.
You should place a report with screenshots of your conversation with him to Steamrep.com.

Yeah I guess I didn't really think about how reliable it was, I did check the people who had given him +rep and they all looked legit and most weren't on his freindslist...

Plenty you can do. There are various places you can report him, assuming you kept evidence of everything that happened. If his profile rep is fake you can even get the people that gave it marked as scammers some places.

As for getting your keys back. Nope. They're gone. Sorry. :/

You do realize that he can create fake accounts/ask his friends to write +rep on his profile and also remove any negative comment!.Anyways, lesson learned next time use a much reliable source if u're willing to go first such as steamtrades rep. or hire a middleman.

10/10 Would get scammed again.
:/
Also, nothing happened to him...
I opened a thread on steamrep and also a ticket on steam support.
None has been done against him...
He's still out there, in the darkness, walking stealthily, hiding in the shadows...Scamming people... So dark, with blood in his hands...

My thread

I would be happy if u guys could report him as well...

Ugh... I feel bad for what happened to you, but people should really learn NEVER TO TRUST rep comments on Steam profiles. Ever.
I don't think there's anything you can do. Report the account, provide screenshots of the chat/trade. It won't do much, but if they get reported enough times, Valve will eventually look into it, theoretically.

But I've learned not to trust profile rep now, luckyily I only lost 2 keys in the process!

This brought a flashback i have been scammed too,the same way you did but i lost Killing Floor.I reported him and opened a ticket to steam support and ofc they did nothing and basically said tough luck kid, suck it up.The only thing you can do is to post his profile link to various groups and forums and ask them to report them as that will get him trade banned, thats what i did and that dude is still blocked to this very day.Im very sorry this has happened to you but don be sad, heads up as it will get better,be carefull next time use steam trades to identify the scammer and dont trust the+reps on profile like i did cause they dont mean squat!
Cheerz and good luck :)

You can't trust rep anywhere nowadays, that includes trade rep on here. Had a guy try to scam me a few months ago, nothing but positive rep on here (about double what I've got) and he hadn't had his account hijacked because a fellow trader had the same problem with him about a month prior. Your keys are definitely gone, just stick to the old rule of be willing to lose whatever you're selling - if you're not, don't ever trade for anything.

Haven't read all responses yet, but mainly, don't close the chat window. Copy the text into a text file, and take screenshots of the entire conversation. you can submit it to SteamRep.

Also if he has a Steamtrades profile, you can give negative rep there, and he can't remove it. Even if he didn't link you to his ST profile, that doesn't mean that he doesn't have one, and it can be found, if he does. Feel free to add me if you need help doing so.

As you're obviously new, here's another way of scamming that's been going around.

Person X wants to trade with you for something but "is afraid of getting scammed so wants a middle-man to check the item".
Person X wants you to first send that item to one of your friends on Steam so he can "verify" that the item is legit.
Person X, using another profile, also named X, adds your friend (let's just call her Luxy) because he wants to see the item in her inventory.
Person X tells Luxy that she can give the item back to you.
Person X, using the second X profile quickly duplicates your profile (so now it's named Allportand aand has your avatar) asks Luxy to give "you" the item back.

Why are we calling the friend Luxy? Because Luxy had a hell of a time trolling one such scammer xD xD xD

Also, NEVER EVER click on any links from people that aren't your friends and that you don't know well. It's always good to check if someone sends you a link (even your friends because their profiles might have been hijacked) without saying something, or just saying "LOL, look at this" or some other stupid thing without any personal meaning to you.

And yeah, I never click links, I've had a few posted on the comments of my steam profile, I just delete them straight away

Thanks for your help!

Yeah, always make sure to check how long you have been friends with someone (in the trade window) before you make a trade and never let anyone rush you.

Once, I trade 12 Dota2 keys with DayZ ( The price was equal then) Then game deleted from my account because it says there was trick while buying the game. I contact with support and they gave my keys back. But my situation is different than you. He didn't scammed me, he scammed the Steam. But I am not sure about your situation, it was your responsibility and I don't think they will give your keys back.

1) On the scammer's profile, click on "More" --> "Report Violation" --> "Attempted Trade Scam" with explanation of what had happened.

2) You can report the guy to SteamRep (provided you have photos that prove the agreement, then the scammer stealing your items)

3) If applicable, you can -rep his SteamTrades profile.

4) Block communication with this scammer.

Never go first. Never trade over steam outside the trade window. Lesson learned.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yep! Basically what you said... Also Rep on Steam profile doesn't mean sh*t!

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

First, see if you can somehow regain contact with the scammer, and convince him to do the right thing.

If they were humble Bundle links then you do have further options. If you contact HB support they can revoke the keys and get you your games back. (Speaking from experience from when I got scammed.)

However, you did say "keys" and if the trade wasn't fully done through the Steam trade window, Steam support probably won't be of much help and the most of you can do is plague the scammer with negative rep everywhere (Steam, Steamtrades, Steamrep, etc.)

BUT if there is one thing you get out if this nightmare, whether you get your keys back or not, it's that you learn from your mistake through effort to never make it again (or get scammed again at all, honestly.) Always be more cautious when doing trades in the future.

They were CSGO keys and it was not done through the Steam Trade window, so they are almmost definitely lost... But yeah! I have learned a lot from every on here, thankfully steam gifts has a very helpful and respectful community (for the most part)

Rep on steam profile means absolutely nothing to me,it can easily be obtained for smallest trades and it can be fake. Some people do giveaways in steam groups and require +rep on steam profile so they can scam people. I found that only rep I can trust is on steam gifts since u cant make many fake accounts and people post relevant reviews of trade. So,my advice, check steam gifts rep, never failed me so far, check https://steamrep.com/ site, and don't trade for game keys outside of steamgifts. If u trade for only giftable games, find reputable and legit traders on tf2 outpost or steam gifts, guys who own many games and did many trades, they wont bother scamming u for few keys. For the guy who scammed u,u cant do anything. Rep on steam profile can be deleted, that's why I don't trust it at all.
