Heyo,
I've had this question for a while, but didn't ask cuz had no gib to go with... until now
anyways.... are keys reliable in value? Or should I liquefy them to steam wallet?
I know keys are easy to be used as trading currency but what if they drop in value? I only buy directly on steam store or trade for games with others however lately i realised trading with others is expensive, but occasionally there are good deals to be found..
what about you guys? do you all invest in keys or items (cards, emotes etc) for trades or do u prefer buying from store?

Keys won't drop in value since they always costs that certain amount of money to buy them from the official store.

say there's an excess of keys.... wouldn't that reduce the worth of keys?
I mean, inflation is always possible right?

Keys are extremely stable, with the usual fluctuation similar to "real world currencies":

That would require Valve action, and I doubt they'd intentionally ruin keys price, they have no deal in it, and generating keys results them in money lose, so I'd say that we won't have such situation anytime soon.

but it isn't up to vulva to generate keys is it? say suddenly people start hoarding keys or buy in bulk - wouldn't that result in a decrease in value?

That would result in excessive amount of those keys - yes, but nobody said that it will equal to decreased value. If you have 20k $ in bank account instead of 10k $ it doesn't automatically mean that you're going to spend more - market is not that easy, otherwise everybody would gamble it and profit on it. Of course value would decrease, but I wouldn't say that it'd be any significant drop, because nothing changed in this matter since many years.

CS:GO keys are stronger then TF2 keys, they won't drop much, except with summer sales etc, people sell them to buy games.

Bump and meow. CSGO keys are fairly stable in US dollar terms, but will fluctuate in other currencies.

I use euro, is it affected?

Yes, it will be affected to the extent that Euros fluctuate in value against US Dollars. So if Euros increase in value against the US dollar, the price of keys in Euros will go down; on the other hand, if Euros decrease in value against the US dollar, the price of keys in Euros will go up.

Does that make sense?

Keys drop in value when there is a sale soon. So if you mind to trade them away before sale starts - better to keep them

I always have both wallet and keys. I use the keys as a trading currency, preferrably the uncommon cs:go keys, because they are more expensive. Keys drop in value only during sales, but in other times, their value is almost standard. Trust me, it's better to buy your games with keys, because it's cheaper this way.
