Does anyone here play them or am I the only one? My favorites would have to be Saya no Uta and Narcissu so far.

I'm intrigued! Are these on Steam?

Not on Steam, sadly. I'm pretty sure Steam declined the chance to get the Higurashi visual novels on the service, sooooo... it doesn't seem like they'll have VNs anytime soon.

There's tons of websites that have them though. A large percentage of them are... naughty, so be careful. Narcissu is a clean one.

If things doesn't go wrong there will be VN's on Steam, we are working on that. Hopefully we'll be able to get Aselia the Eternal on Steam for starters. I'm not sure about pure VN's at this point but we believe VN/RPG's have a chance on Steam.

Here is some info about that game:

Aselia the Eternal (永遠のアセリア Eien no Aselia) originally released 2003 in Japan and since been one of the most popular VN/SRPG's, getting many releases on PC and PS2 that expanded its content. In the last couple of years, It got translated by an indie group called Dakkodango and licensed to be released in English by Jast Densetsu.

There are seven different paths that you can follow through its story with over a hundred hours of gameplay consisting VN/ADV style story segments, strategy segments where you lead your troops and RPG style character customization & battles. It is planned to be released soon, I'll let you know if the Steam deal works through.

I enjoy them quite a bit but there don't seem to be very many english ones.
Well, aside from the odd translated hentai which I could do without.

A quick search into the VNDB results in around 700 visual novels and other games with ADV/VN parts of considerable length with a full or partial English language release. So I'd gather that there are a few you missed. ;)

I played Clannad before but didn't play all the arcs. It gets tiring after a while, especially if you watched the anime already. I am sure many things are left out though. Might try playing it once again sometime.

Visual novel's really aren't my cup of tea. The only one I played and completed is Radical Dreamers, due to its relation to Chrono Trigger/Chrono Cross. Other than that I typically stick to action/rpg/tactical rpg/ rts games.

I've tried to play Real Kanojo. But it was too stupid so i uninstalled it. The most boring gameplay ever.

Mostly Key's Visual Novel, such as Clannad and Kanon.

I've also played True love (Very old game) and Yume Miru Musuri (A drug that makes you dream.)

And Don't take it personally babe, it just ain't your story.

I wish they had Visual novels on steam but that's not going to happen.

my favorite is Saya No Uta mostly because I love anything lovecraftian.

My favorite so far is Clannad, the emotions contained in it are so strong it fucking hurts you for like a week. Tear jerker.

I don't get it, what's a visual novel? Is it a game, or more like a movie? Or online comic book?

Sumpin like an interactive movie. Imagine Fahrenheit or Heavy Rain with hentai girls :/ As for me, it's a text quest/adventure.

Type up a story on a computer, draw characters and backgrounds, add music and/or voices to it, then add choices that the player can make (which is optional).
Have this all play out like a slideshow and there ya go, that's a visual novel. :3

A Visual Novel usually looks like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Full screen text with overlying image is the main clue to identify them. They also feature heavier narrative than ADVs.

While the Japanese style adventure games, which also gets called as Visual Novels outside Japan look like this: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Texts appearing in smaller boxes, most usually at the down center is the tell of an JADV.

While these visual presentation styles are frequently used in all kinds of mostly Japanese originated games the defining factor of a VN/ADV is the presence of narration, non-VN games only have dialogue and that is considered to be the difference.
