We all know games now always try to get you to buy more.

There are few times where you can buy the skins with in game currency but mostly it's with real money. Sometimes the Devs even want you to buy another game made by them which can cost quite a bit more.

My question is, when do you think they've crossed the line?

Half a dollar at most. Since little to no games offer those prices, I usually don't get any cosmetic items.

i'd never pay for a skin. Ever :)

10-25€. Spend atleast 150€ for skins in LoL. And you cant cross the line with just skins. They dont effect gameplay in any way.

That's what you think, but they could in several ways >>

No, skins cant effect gameplay as they are only cosmetic.

But you see, if someone were to make a very ... appealing skin in a game, and other players were to stare and then they died because they weren't focusing, I think that may effect the gameplay!

I am just messing around, I get your point, but I do think they charge way too much sometimes.

High price = increased rarity. (And as long as ppl still buy them, the price wont drop)

We joked about "skin advantage" in LoL. Supposedly, if one team has more (or more expensive) skins, it means they play with their characters a lot and know how to use them, so opposing team will start to panic and surrenders.

Actually, certain skins do affect gameplay in LoL, but only by a tiny amount

Nothing. I wont encourage greed. What next, DLC for game textures?

So greed is now wanting to be paid for your job. I see.

No greed is expecting to be paid twice for one job.

You haven't considered free to play games, that are always actively being worked on.

Different with F2P games sure.

It's really simple maths. I'm sure you can work it out if you think about it... :P

For me it would depend on how rare it is, what it looks like and how much in depend it is. If they only plan on releasing 100 of them, I would pay like $1 to $5, if not, nothing

Having a separate dlc for every single skin is just stupid, i don't buy those. Hitman's single weapon dlcs and Saints row single costume dlcs? What the hell. Not even sims had bollocks like a dlc with a new type of chair.

Depends but I think I would buy a skin(or similar things) only in games that i really like and to give a little support, i mean if i play a lot a free to play game(for example) than buying something from it it's like buying the game.

Nothing. Especially in 1st person shooters it's completely pointless and since I mostly play 1st person games I won't spend a single cent on a skin. Plus most games can be modded for client side and I don't care what other people see.

A casual set in the Dota2 store is around 10 euros, and you can buy 4-5 good indies for like a dollar (80 eurocents) ?

Rip-off ... But some people are collectors, and spend thousands and thousands dollars on pure cosmetics item, 'cause hey, they can. o.O

It truly depends on the game, the initial price and the fun I have with the basegame.
If it's a free game like League of Legends in first place and I enjoy it for a long period I'm more willing to spend much more than on tactical Weapon Pack's for FP-Shooters I only play for a few hours for example.

LoL was free in first place and up to today I spend roughly about 100€, not only for Skins but to unlock ingame stuff which otherwise would have taken me ages to do so (Champs, Runepages, ...). My account is ~2.5 Years old and I played it more or less all the time. Supporting a game which came for free and gave me lots of Entertainment is totally fine with me :)

Back when you could only purchace boosts, pets and cosmetics on MapleStory, I wasted a lot of money only for the looks, and sometimes it wasn't even permanent (well, none of them are permanent now, the server ended), and I didn't regret a cent.

nothing over 10 bucks, and only if the skin really changes something.
The most common example people have given here has been league of legends, and I think it´s definately a good example. However, I´m not gonna buy a skin unless it looks hella awesome or changes your skills too.

Nothing, unless it was part of a massively price reduced DLC bundle on Steam. DLC always seems like a slap in the face so I only buy it when it's massively reduced in price and/or packed with the original game.

i've bought some 75% off skin-only dlc for games i got cheap and liked enough that i wanted to support them more. normally i won't buy dlc unless it adds something significant to the game. usually i find that dlc is priced at least 4x what it's worth and that's pretty annoying.
