Does this work?:

I have the non steam version of Planetside 2 installed on my PC

I want to install it via steam instead (dont ask why okey?)

I'm woundering if there is a way to use the files from the non steam version and place them in a folder inside steamapps so i wont need to redownload everyfile again

Does that work?

why?

Should be possible. You just need to know the name of planetside folder, someone who plays it could check it out.
So just copy files to steamapps/"planetsidefoldername", then go to steam and Verify integrity of game cache.
But since game has it's own updater, I guess it would update some parts..

i find coping folder into common folder first then installing game will "discover existing" content. if you do it the way you suggest it starts downloading all the content in the "downloading folder"
