But I'm finally feeling better and am ready to eat. It's been about 3 days since I've had anything besides Gatorade and I'm absolutely famished. A cheeseburger sounds pretty good, but I'm nervous that might be too heavy for my stomach as of yet. Should I indulge myself or should I play it safe and stick with something lighter, like soup?

What should I eat?

A giant cheeseburger and onion rings!
Tomato soup
Bread and water
I'll post it in the comments
A potato

Sorry to hear that you've been sick, but glad you're feeling better! If it were me I'd probably try to play it safe, especially with a queasy stomach. If you want a heavier food than soup, maybe just try having it in a small amount at first and see how your body reacts? :)

there was once i had food poisoning and anything i consume i would just threw up. The first thing i could take was soup after a day of not eating and i guess something light would be good for you then slowly eat heavier stuff.

You can manage the burger, but the onion rings with all of the deep frying involved will make you feel bad.
have some burger and that's it...

Sorry to hear about you being sick. But you're good now, that's a relief :)
Better be safe and and try to avoid heavy foods at first. I'd try eating cheeseburgers and onion rings maybe after a few days and in smaller amounts.

Eat something healthy. The only option you posted that even approaches healthy is bread and water.

The people saying a burger and onion rings are idiots. The fat and grease from both are much more likely to cause problems... avoiding them is a good idea. Definitely stick to something light. If you're afraid that you might throw up... a broth-based soup is a good place to start. Plain crackers (which some pregnant women eat to deal with morning sickness), especially saltines, are a nice light snack that shouldn't irritate your stomach. Toast is also another thing you can eat. I realize you didn't ask about drinks, but you could still keep this stuff in mind for any other time when you're sick. Ginger ale, hot tea, and clear sodas (no dyes) are some good alternatives that can all help with nausea. Also, taking vitamin C is a good idea. Don't eat too much at once. Eating small portions throughout the day might be good... let your stomach gradually get used to food again.

I hope you do find something that works for you, and I hope you feel 100% better soon. (:

Something plainer would be better right now, yes. I would say a Soup is fine, Soups are good (even though I am not a Soup Person myself). As you wanted to eat a Burger, I assume you aren't a Vegetarian, so Chicken Soup isn't a classic for nothing.
Tomatoes have acids in them, which can also be a little bit hard on some ppls stomach. So today maybe some Chicken Soup with Noodles, maybe a little Bread.
Tomorrow then you can thing of maybe lightly fried things like scrambled eggs and from that point on move forward.

I also feel you. I am sick as well. Terrible cough, fever at times, aching limbs, headache, the whole deal basically. My whole weekend -sigh- Luckily I didn't had to many problems with my Stomach. Still I kept it a bit saver too. One never knows.

Hope you feel better soon :)

+1. Chicken soup is a miracle for sick people! I wouldn't prefer adding Noddles :)

Yeah, selfmade is of course always best, but even store-bought can be good. Maybe its psychosomatic. Not sure. But it does help.

And noodles for me because I am actually not a fan of soups. Something inside of me is like: "Its thin, this is a drink trying to disguise itself as food."
Dunno, but soups were never really something I liked. So the noddles are a lifesaver. Something to chew on and fill the stomach, without being overwhelming.

(at least I am not my Mum, she put yesterday some leftover Mashed Potatoes in the Soup. Yuck)

I prefer staying away from store-bought ones. You know, they may contain unhealty stuff.

If you really want something to chew in soup, I suggest you adding some chicken parts or you can eat soup with some dried bread (you put some little pieces of bread into furnace and wait until they become crispy). Personally, I like soup with no pieces inside and some bread.
