I installed the game during the free weekend and today the period ended. Although, if I go to game directory, I can simply execute the game DRM-free and play it.

How can this happen?

There are games which either do not, or improperly use the license management part of Steam.

It's not about licensing, you can't run the game from within Steam anymore. They just didn't use DRM in the actual executable file.

I am not sure where the contradiction is between our opinions...

I guess a licensing issue would have kept the game free to play from Steam, as in "Steam thinks I have a right to play the game, the game abides with what Steam says". Instead, I'd say it's the game not asking himself, or Steam whether I have a right to play it. See my point?

On "game using the license management part of Steam" I meant the actual call into steam_api.dll, from within the game [executable]... See my point? ;-)

I see your point. :) I would just have called it DRM. ;)

Yeah, another example is Wings of Vi.

This is why I always say Steam is not DRM. It's up to the publishers to use the DRM features or not.

Or maybe it's just an oversight.

Sure, it might be. My point was just that Valve/Steam don't enforce DRM use on games they sell.

Definitely not okay. It's a fantastic game and the devs are really friendly and helpful.

Yeah, I didn't do it on purpose. I found it after going to remove the game files.
