It's being given away free in large quantities by Humble Bundle. It's no coincidence that there are a lot of GAs for it right now.

It will be soon. Meanwhile, you could just blacklist those creating giveaways for it.

Not a bad idea...

i wouldnt blacklist someone only because he has a collectors he give away, unless its clear to see by the description. the one giving that away could give it only away because for himself the normal version is enough or other reasons.

A lvl 0 giving away Collector's Edition the same day the base game is free is a quite a coincidence, wouldn't you say?

Too much of a "coincidence" for me. SG support might have to give the benefit of the doubt, but I don't.

Not if you take into accoutn what i wrote. if id had a collectors one that was meant for myself and id get a free base game id give the collectors away, simple becuase I dont need the dlc stuff. so thats why automatically assuming everyone give the free key hidden was collectors is not okay.
edit: and ofc it must be AFTER the game is given free otherwise you wouldnt know you can get it for free and have no need for the collectors. Clearly what i wrote is a rare case and might happen in reality rarely. but still you damage honest people too with auto assuming stuff that you dont know

I don't "damage" anyone by blacklisting a few probable-asshats and not giving them any games.

well if you dont read what i write then do what you want. i gave you a example how you could blacklist your way someone who has nothing done wrong. theres sure other examples you could think off where your blacklist would damage someone who doesnt has anything done wrong.

I have actually taken your thoughts into consideration, and bookmarked them so I can check it later, but something tells me I wasn't wrong.

if theres only 1 who makes a ga for a collectors that is actually a collectors edition in the whole time the free keys are available you are already wrong. even if not you are still wrong since the chance always exists. its up to you to see everything only in black and white.
my opinion still is that a blacklist on assumptions is silly.

It's not a matter or reading anything you wrote. I had already taken that into consideration, and concluded that the greater good is served by blacklisting them all.

But will blacklisting it also blacklist the DLC? Because I'd like to see lots of giveaways for the DLC now that the base game is free (for a limited time)

No, it won't, don't worry.

Tropico will be removed from SG, the base game
You won't be able to create GAs for this title
Maybe, if devs will (maybe never) change the way this site is working, you'll be able to create gibs for titles marked as free for 0P, but for now, those titles are simply removed/disbled

as for DLC and some complete bundles / GotYs / Golds etc - those will still be available

Maybe, since after 8days all Tropico 4 keys from HB are set to expire, the game should be allowed back after that.
Although the keys maybe won't be revoked at that time.

Well, there were indeed a bunch of GAs for the DLC... but almost all of them have turned out to be cheating.

Two still open, but all others I was watching have turned out to be scammy. (AFAIK, talgaby's troll GA is the only one that wasn't.)

There were other real ones. (Plus I had another key, but they deactivated that game from listing before I had a chance to put it up. ;_;)

Really? I haven't seen any, and I've been specifically monitoring a bunch of them. Lots of deletions, a couple of suspensions, and two still open, is all I see. (I'm talking about the DLC listings.)

I just did a quick search on the DLC. The first two non-deleted public ones are marked as received by the winners. After that, some giveaways with non-received and one still waiting.
Keep in mind that the DLC itself had a really good price on HB, especially for monthly subs. :) It was easy and cheap to grab one to mingle among the other DLC giveaways a little.

well, it should be BL only until end of event + 7 days, since key wont be redeemable in future

But it probably need to be BL right now

That is not clearly described. It could also mean you have to Click on redeem key on Humble bundle, and the key maybe will be than accessible and/or usable after the promote on steam

Actually, it is clearly explained on claimed page where you get the key.

Enjoy your free order of Tropico 4!
Note: You must redeem your free Tropico 4 key by 10AM Pacific on Saturday, September 17, 2016! Immediately after 10AM Pacific on September 17, the code will magically vanish as if it were just a figment of your imagination, leaving this cryptic message behind in its wake.

"the code will magically vanish as if it were just a figment of your imagination, leaving this cryptic message behind in its wake."
that could only mean that it wont be showed anymore on the page like other free keys they had. they where still redeemable.
Especially the vanish would fit there. so if you note / copy it it could still be valid even if not more shown.

Yes, but it is repeated in red in a more explicite way as well.

The redemption deadline is September 17th, 2016 at 10:00 AM Pacific. You have 8 days left!

No, they will almost surely revoke all unused keys to prevent the scenario you described. Apparently there is an option now to invalidate keys that are not associated with any account now, preventing it from being used in the future.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

No, they won't revoke the keys. This happened before with a Humble giveaway, and what they meant was that you had to click on the redeem link on the Humble page and record or write down that key somewhere, before they removed the page. It did not mean that an unused key would be revoked.

OK, was that language there before, or did they just add it? Anyway, since they clarified things that way, then it must mean that they do expire. Previously, the whole "...vanishing..." language they had up had been used in the past, and it simply meant that the reveal key page would be removed, not that the keys would literally expire. I guess things do change. Humble has often done a very poor job with being clear about it's language use and phrasing, and someone seems to have finally gotten a clue.

Yep, things change. Bundle Stars had recently a small fiasco, where a dev managed to revoke all unused keys of a game: anyone who activated it kept it, but keys not consumed yet were rendered useless. So it is definitely a possibility for a publisher now.

Absolutely agree, since the codes will be invalidated after the end date, there is no reason to keep the game out of SG. It usually doesn't work this way though.
