You could give Game of Thrones a go. But I've heard it's horrible.

Try MassEffect though. Although is kinda more of an ARGP

The fighting mechanics and overall gameplay is just "meh". Not good but I wouldn't call it horrible either. I went into the game knowing this (reviews and such) and wanted to play it mostly for the GoT story and to experience the environments from that universe. After sinking over 20 hours into it, I would say it is worth it for the story alone, if you like GoT. If you don't like GoT I would stay away.

In terms of how much it is worth I would say buying it for $10-20 would be worth it.

There's sadly a lack of games in this genre. I'm always on the look-out for real-time/puesdo-real-time tactical cRPGs.
There's the Drakensang series and Krater, neither of which are all that great.
Darklands (look for it on GOG) is the granddaddy of the genre and it might be worth looking at it. I've had a lot of fun on it and can operate on some low-end machines well.

A warning about this one: It is rather buggy. For some it seem to work like a charm, for others it is nigh unplayable. For me it decided to spawn me on the opposite side of the level when playing with a friend, and it also seemed to only save progress when it wanted to. Also, combat was a bit bland.

The Last Remnant, if you like JRPGs. But the party handling there differs, because you can put up to 5 chars into "armys" and give them orders. But the game is very good. And hard, I remember when I was in rage here because of the insane difficulty :D

TLR is indeed a really good game. ALthough i don´t remember it being too hard or difficult anytime. Maybe because i play these games more often, don´t know.

Avernum, Avadon, Legend of Grimrock, Might & Magic series (3-8 at least), Temple of Elemental Evil, Icewind Dale 1-2, Planescape Torment, Lands of Lore 1, Fallout: Tactics, A Farewell to Dragons, Eye of the Beholder 1-3, Betrayal at Krondor, Drakensang (River of Time in particular), Realms of Arkania 1-3 (same setting as Drakensang), Ultima 4-7, Arcanum and that should give you enough to play for a year to come.'

Ah what the heck: Wizardry 6-8, Wizards & warriors (the PC game, not the old NES game), Vampire the Masquerade: Redemption, Stonekeep, Worlds of Ultima 1-2, Throne of Darkness and now I'm done for the moment.

Most of which you can acquire on GOG.com

However, could have gotten them much cheaper when the sales were going on, heh.

http://www.gog.com/gamecard/avernum_the_complete_saga

Avernum complete for $8 atm. That's 1-6 and Blades. Far cheaper than you'd find it from Steam.

Indeed, the vast majority of them can be found there. The exceptions being A Farewell to Dragons (can be found on Gamer's Gate), Eye of the Beholder 1-3 (not legally sold anywhere, though used copies of the CD-compilation are easy to come by), Drakensang (Steam & Gamer's Gate, River of Time is only sold in the US, though boxed copies are not all that uncommon), Wizardry (can't be found legally anywhere), Wizards & Warriors (same) & Throne of Darkness (same again, though used copies are easy to find)

And the Avernum deal is GOG is amazing. Sadly it does not contain the recent re-re-make of Avernum 1 (Avernum 1 being a remake of the first Exile), Avernum: Escape from the Pit (which can be found on Steam), but you still get 7 40-60h games for $8.

If you have a PSP, you could get Phantasy Star Portable 2. Or maybe try Monster Hunter games, like the one that is coming to Wii U.
