Not sure if you're missing that much, for me Jolly Rover is one of the worst adventure games I recently played and completed.

It starts for me with technical issues - I'm completionist whore and this game includes some collectable stuff connected to Steam achievements but also... it uses automatic save system. It's not allowing you to save game whenever you want, instead you have one save file that's updated each time you enter some location. It means NO COMING BACK if you missed something, it's permanent. Enjoy. There's at least one situation when you get specific collectable item by choosing right dialogue options during a conversation and it's not hinted in any way. Just for that mechanic wasting people's time creators should get their heads on spikes.

In my opinion voice acting was just terrible, especially main character commenting stuff for most of the time feels out of place and context. That guy sounds like an accountant having his every-normal-day in his office doing some small talks between his job. Special mention goes to whenever he yelled 'yikes!', it was just irritating. There were just few guys voicing all of the characters, you can clearly hear it since they're all bad at what they're doing.

I didn't find the game funny even tho I've seen they certainly tried to be, oh they really tried hard. Most of the time I just found their gags forced and unfresh (i.e. you have few characters with only one line which is 'yarr', come on at least try harder), nothing even close to brilliance or most of the adventure games (bearing in mind just ones driven by their humour, of course). The only thing that I remember is a reference to Lord of the Flies which I enjoyed - but not sure if as creators intended... I found line 'I have the conch, you have to listen to me!' funny because it was a torture to hear him for the whole game. They wasted a lot of comical potential too not giving your character various comments when you're trying to use stuff together in your inventory - but in the other hand, I doubt they'd succeed in that matter even if they tried. So let's just say that repetition of something like 'I can't do that' is utterly boring after some time.

Don't forget lack of animations (I really hate in adventure games moments when your character interacts with someone/something and you can only see his hand moving, this one is really really guilty of that) and most dreadful river I've seen in a while.

At best I'd give it 4/10, after completing it I think it was a waste of my time.

It's an indie game, created by just one man,you can't expect much.I admit, completing the achievements can be a pain in the ass.I guess different people have different opinions.

I second this. It was a tough choice between GR and BASS.

It's the best short adventure game I've played, I think. The best adventure game of recent times, unless you count The Walking Dead.

New Sam & Max video games. You can clearly tell, that Telltale do a lot of drugs.

I bought them last weekend, have only beaten the two first chapters, and though I'm liking it a lot, it's kind of disappointing the fact that with the chapter thingy, you get only a few items and puzzles are really easy. Does it get harder later?

First two chapters from season one? Yes, I believe it does, though it's never really hard. (and chapter 3 was actually the easiest one :P)

The puzzles even make sense if you get the twisted atmosphere of Sam & Max world. Some are really creative, for example the whole 'idea' of 3x02.

Love the games though

I never said they were easy! Easier than most of adventure games I completed, but during these 3 seasons, yeah, I checked the walkthrough a couple of times :p but I'm a bit impatient).

Although not technically a P&C game (because you don't use the mouse), I would say Grim Fandango because its that same Adventure genre. Still one of my favorite games of all time.

Lucasarts and/or Tim Schafer have put out some of my favorite games.

  • Maniac Mansion
  • DoTT
  • Grim Fandango
  • Monkey Island games

I've still got a copy of Full Throttle that I need to try. Somehow, I missed that one back in the day. I found a used copy a couple of years ago, but haven't gotten around to trying it (beyond checking to make sure it works).

You might want to run it through ScummVM as it's designed to run those older adventure games on modern system. (I also play them on my phone with that.)

I've messed around with that program before. Its a great way to run those games. It has a lot of nice graphical touches to apply to make older games more visually pleasing. Plus, it helps them actually operate to begin with!

Day of the Tentacle. Because it's just completely hilarious and even makes sense once you get a feel of the internal logic the story runs on.
Followed by Beneath a Steel Sky. For managing to succesfully mix hardcode cyberpunk and dark comedy.

Opinion may change after I've had time to spend on Resonance.

Machinarium. Great soundtrack and the hints really make it easier to solve - making it feels more casual. And I really like how the story was conveyed without uttering a single word.
