You got 24 hours.
Don't be a dick and leak the answers and/or the giveaway.

I figured it was time for some hints.
Both answers are 3 words, all capitals.

The answer for both questions was:

NO NO NO
Translated to German: NEIN NEIN NEIN
Smuggled to ascii: 078069073078032078069073078032078069073078

Caps doesn't matter with answers, no symbols, but they are in Ascii.

Caps do matter for Ascii codes tho. So, yeah, you can consider this puzzle case-sensitive.

You translate the answer to German, then smuggle it to Ascii.
Also, my giveaway, I can do what I want. Checking my page will show that I put contrib value on it.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah, you can do what you want, and I can think what I want about the decisions you make. Also, why do you put contributor value on a puzzle giveaway, you're putting time into solving it, contributor value seems like a second and unneeded barrier. A lot of people that are trying to solve your puzzle don't actually have enough contributor value and they are not checking your profile, because most puzzle makers also think that contributor value on a puzzle is a sin.

Everyone else who realised they couldn't enter have just gave up and gone. You're the only one complaining. If all you're going to do is bitch that you cannot solve it, or enter the giveaway if you did manage to solve it, then please leave.

If no one called you out, no one would have realised that there is contrib value on the giveaway and no one would have left. Maybe some of the newer people on here put contributor value on their giveaways, but the big puzzle creators usually don't put contributor value on their giveaways, and they are at least nice enough to mention it. I'm still here complaining, because you're questions don't make any sense. If someone manages to solve it by themselves, I'll be suprised, even though you gave 90% of the puzzle away already.

1 decade ago

They're encoded, and in foreign languages. Of course they are hard to understand.
Nobody "called me out" either, they just stated there was contributor value on the giveaway.

but when i see his profile.. 300$ contrib Value..

I think I know what Q1 wants, but the problem is that this puzzle is case-sensitive and spaces would matter. (If I understood it properly)

The questions are hexadecimal. Once deciphered, you get French, translate to English, answer question, translate to German, smuggle to Ascii.

Comment has been collapsed.

Although this SOUNDS easy, its still quite hard. seeing as there's a wide variety of possible answers and no real definition set for them... for example, i could answer "yes", "no", "yes i am" :<.....its still kinda hard.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Even worse, converting to ASCII means the case and spaces matters.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Wow, yeah, that gives the answers too many possibilities.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I understood the technique required. Hence I put "nope.avi" in German Ascii to demonstrate that I did. But the questions are open-ended without the benefit of being one of the simplest possible solutions (ex. 'yes', 'no').

Other puzzles do this as well. "Was this a good idea? (y/n)". So of course I answer yes out of politness. Nope, 30 seconds wasted because I'm expected to recognize that the puzzle author is self-deprecating. It's worse when people ask to guess numbers without the solution being the first or last of the range given or at least a clue to stop wasting 10 minutes. Even worse than that was that Monty Python quiz where the exact spelling of 'The Beast of Aaargh' required was so exact that numerous participants who knew the answer were stuck because of syntax.

The puzzle then isn't figuring out solutions so much as figuring out the author's particular Moon Logic. Now, Moon Logic Puzzles can be done well (see: The 'Thanks for Skyrim' or 'Name the game from its banner colours' puzzles) when the questions are structured towards a closed solution and the expectations placed on the participants are realistic. I don't believe this puzzle fits either of those criteria though. Maybe I'm wrong.

Please don't read into this as me being angry or frustrated. I just have neither the contributor value nor the patience to devote to it, and wanted to note for other's benefit that a) this is a CV giveaway, and b) this isn't nearly as straightforward as you seem to think it is.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I understand perfectly where you're coming from.
This puzzle was not supposed to really have any logic to it, but instead to annoy participants. It's so hard, that once someone finally solves it, they're hit in the face with a contributor value too high for them to enter. I was going to see if anyone would enter, and if no one did, post another giveaway, but with an incredibly simple puzzle, and no CV.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yeah.... see thats a reason for people to rage about this giveaway... if i could solve it, i would enter. but seeing that u made it literally impossible, there is no point in trying...

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Wait... so you made this puzzle so it would have no logic to it... as in the answers or questions are random and therefore impossible to solve? Then that's not a puzzle. Or a riddle.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

its just plain guessing at a bunch of different possible answers.

1 decade ago

Having answers that fit the questions does not make a good puzzle/riddle/whatever.
Having questions that fit the answers does.

u know your argument has no backing. y is adding a contributor value on a puzzle a sin? he thought his puzzle was easy so he added a second barrier so those who have contributed could join. it doesnt take much time to look at his profile, even though it would have been easier if he told everyone on the thread.

I would say there's a difference between setting a $0.01, $10, or even $30 contribution limit on a puzzle giveaway without immediate disclosure and $211.06. I agree for the most part, but I'm just sayin'.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

You're putting your time into solving the puzzle, it's just a dick move to put contrib value on top of that, and it's even worse to not mention it in the thread, because this means that people who put time into solving the puzzle might get fucked when they finally solve it. Also, he thought completely wrong if he thought it was too easy. If you're going to make a language quiz, don't just use google translate. Q1 isn't even a question!

I've not seen any of your puzzle giveaways or might not have noticed it as much because you mentioned the contrib value in the thread, but if I ever see one, I'll complain to you as well. Most people don't, because you're giving away a game for free, you can't really complain because it's just a giveaway you can't enter. I just got mad because I was trying to solve it for a bit, and when I finally decoded the questions, he just posts it in the thread and I find out I wouldn't even be able to join the giveaway anyways!

1) Lovely insult as always, love ya <3µ

2) If you're putting time into solving the puzzle, you shouldn't be punched in the face by a suprise contributor value block. Puzzles are about solving the puzzle, not about having given away enough games. I've talked to a decent amount of puzzle giveaway creators that have been on here a while , and most of them agree that contributor value on puzzle giveaways is just overkill.

Whoopsie daisy, everyone on here is ragging on me, so I though you were too. Still, most people say that I've never given away anything of any value, yet I give games to friends because they will always be thankful and will not call me a "leecher", even if I give away games that cost absolutely nothing. They care about the game, not about how much I paid for them.

2) I've explained myself every step on the way, so I'd hope I would get a discussion, and not calling each other names. I was pissed at first, that's why I used strong language, but everyone else kept going when I tried to reason with you

Okay, it is time to come clean.
I was successful.
This whole thing was designed to mess with people. To absolutely piss them off. They would solve a near-impossible puzzle, only to be unable to enter it due to an extremely high CV.
I was then going to wait till it ended, and see if anyone entered. If they did not, I would make another giveaway, with a simple puzzle, and a tiny CV.
I have bought another copy of the game I was giving away, and will post another puzzle. This one will be simple, I promise, lol.

You shouldn't assume for her as well, one of the giveaways she won was private, so she at least contributed to the community (puzzle or chat) and dropping keys in chats is actually fun, so she might have given away games in chats or on the forum, but they don't show up on the site.

I know it's hard not to assume, because most of the time the assumption is actually right, but you still got to be a little respectful.

you can always make private giveaways for you and your friends.. makes things interesting. Plus, you can get contributor value.

I generally only do Contrib value giveaways now of 0.01$ just so I know I give a game to someone who gives a game.

Plus, most people tell me the same because I have more wins than actual given giveaways. But, if you ask any of my friends on my friendslist If I have ever given them a game they would say yes. I have given more games than I actually own. Out of the 3 grand my account is worth the actual amount I have given away to friends is about 5/6 grand..all over time. and of course deals. I freaking LOVE deals.

I like to give away indie games, because I enjoy them, so with all these bundles, the contributor value would stay the same. Also, I like the immediate reaction more than the boring old "thanks!" on a private giveaway and maybe something more when they win.
