I'm pretty sure this topic has been mentioned several times before but I just won a copy of a game that happened to be region locked and I'm unable to retrieve it. No where in the contest description or comments was it stated about having a region lock what so ever. So my question is this...... is there any way around this issue by any chance?

Ask the gifter for a reroll and tell him to make sure he says it's region next time.

Can't ask for a reroll on a region-restricted giveaway that wasn't marked clearly, since it can go to someone else not meeting requirements.
Have to agree-to-cancel in the giveaway thread so the creator can cancel the giveaway entirely, or simply mark as 'not-received' if they can't provide you with a working key and you don't want to agree to cancel.

Whitelisted for correctness.
Actually, not really for any specific reason other than I felt like it. ._.

You have to contact the GA creator and tell them of your issue. They should provide you with a key you can activate. Do not mark the key as received before they do so.

some bundle keys are sold as region locked without one knowing it, so I'd not be radical towards region locked giveaways

I didn't think about simply putting a ticket to delete the GA if both parties agree (and of course Support allows it) but otherwise either the giver must provide the right key or the receiver marks the GA as not received. I don't see it as radical but your mileage may vary :)

Can you tell me, if you want of course..where does your name come from or how did you come up with that name?

As you can see on my Steam profile the name is actually longer >.< I wanted to shorten it to just Lal (means 'laugh' in Quneya, language invented by JRR Tolkien) but it was already taken...

Just out of curiosity, what game was it? (Don't tell me who gave it!) If it was something from a recent Humble Bundle, then the creator might well have thought it was a RoW key, as they've previously been that. It's just recently that the keys they've given us have, at least in some cases, been region locked.

Some of the games, yeah. Seems to depend on the publisher.

Capcom and Codemasters bundle are confirmed. HB support said they will look into this issue and try to come up with something that states if a bundle is region-locked.
By the way, Bundle Stars also does this, but they have a warning box on all associated bundles and store items.

Most likely, if you are not RoW region.
While these locks suck, I have to admit, the fact that it puts the keys I get there in a higher rank– and, therefore, makes them more valuable– as I'm in a RoW country is a nice bonus.

I'm in a RoW region too....so, are the keys only being locked to the buyers region then and not a general/ generic region lock for everyone?

They use Steam regions. Capcom was locked to EU for some games, but Capcom is a very special publisher, because almost nobody else uses the EU and NA regions, their keys are normally ROW.

Yeah It was a key for Overlord. Pretty sure it's part of this weeks/month's Humble Bundle

Yep, it is region-locked. Still not enough people are aware of this. Talk with the creator. (Also, let me guess: it is not CIS lock but SEA?)

I think it might be CIS locked

Heh, that is somewhat more rare, but those two seem to be the largest, with SA only slightly behind.

If I still had my keys from a previous bundle, I'd offer them to you. But looks like its a case of the gifter not knowing of the lock.

Return the game to the giveaway creator and tell him to ask support to delete the giveaway.
If it was a gift that's because when you activate a game that grants you extra copies the extra copies will be locked to the region where the pack was activated and the extra copies aren't tagged. Let's say you get a key for gun monkeys (that is row and will give you an extra copy), if you activate it in Russia the extra copy will be locked to that region.
But it seems that was a humble key, I heard they are locking when you send gift links.
