Hello SG people (also cats, aliens, monsters - you know who you are!)

So a few hours ago I realized I just hit 1 whole year of using this cool site! Yay for me!

It's rare for me to persistently go back to one, somewhat social site, and it's not just because I'm getting free games.
We got such a diverse community here. A lot of creative, awesome, nice and rude (I like both types! Free speech bitches!) individuals.
Before I started using SG I've never tried to create online friendships. I never spent any money on digital friends to make them happy.
SG changed all of that.
I'm getting mad, happy, sad, excited, inspired and everything in the emotion spectrum from being here. Mostly reading though :)
So thanks everyone, I mean it! :D

Well now, let's get this going:
In celebration of this occasion I've picked 3 games that are constantly on users wishlists.

  • Choose the one you want most and I'll create a private giveaway and share it in this thread.
  • There will be no level or other restrictions, but using SGtools I'll cap it to 250 entries.

Countdown to the start of the giveaway!

Also, my super special group (Secret Sauce) will get the 2 other games.

Instead of thanking me or just bumping the thread - tell me the 3 best TV series and 3 best movies for 2015! Extra points if you can explain why! (like a mini-review) for at least one of them.

I'll pick 25 users here to invite to Secret Sauce based on their recommendations so they'll be able to enter the 2 other giveaways (and future ones)!

Edit: My fault for not being clear enough - I meant top 3 movies/series of 2015, not those you catch up with 10 years later :) Sorry!

I'll still consider those who invested time and thought into their comments.

The winning game by popular vote:

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Good luck everyone!

I'm not fond of tv series (especially recent ones) and movies :O
The last I followed was probably House MD, now I just watch random repetitions of old shows like Diagnosis: Murder, Murder, She Wrote and the neverending Law & Order.

Happy cake day.

Wow, awesome idea! All in all, I think 2015 was a great year for Film and especially TV. And I still have plenty to see, including The Revenant and The Martian. (Which most likely would of made this list if I had seen them, so sorry!).

TV:

  1. Mr Robot - I'd firstly like to say it was between Mr Robot and Rick and Morty for this spot, but I chose the former because it's new, and on it's first season. Plus it's not as popular as it should be! But anyway, Mr Robot is an award winning rollercoaster and a masterpiece in my mind, everything about it is amazing. It's sad, confusing, tense, melancholic, epic, nerve-racking. It's very close, if not is, my favourite show of all time. I mean it's the only show I've happily watched twice, and wouldn't mind watching again. Clip.
  2. Fargo S02 - This show is brutal and it's brilliant. Memorable characters, over the top and has a way with creating atmosphere. I don't think many will be able to resist binge watching it, I couldn't. I was a bit nervous about this season, coming from such an amazing and perfect first season, I was scared it might turn out a bit like True Detective was, but my was I wrong. Every character is unique, and it NAILS the retro-y vibe and feel of the 70s with tons of different references. I won't spoil anything, but god this show loves hidden meaning and psychology!
  3. Better Call Saul - It's hilarious, unique and very addicting. If you've watched Breaking Bad, I can't find a single reason why you wouldn't like this. The universe feels the exact same, and the characters also. One of the best things about this show is it's character progression, because, well, that's what it's about. It follows Saul Goodman, and his transition of good lawyer to, well, a lawyer "guilty people get". Clip.
  • Honourable mentions: Daredevil, Game Of Thrones.

Film:

  1. Ex Machina - This film took me by surprise, and pretty much flew my radar until I saw it on Reddit. With great acting, atmosphere and VERY intense drama, I have trouble understanding why it wasn't nominated for much. It was amazing!
  2. Mad Max: Fury Road - Being a new comer to the Mad Max film series, I didn't quite know what to expect, but man did I leave the cinema happy. George Miller couldn't of done a better job, with near none stop, thrilling action, insane sets and the odd bit of humour. This film delivered the hype train.
  3. Spectre - This one was a tough choice, because there were tons of, not amazing, but great films in 2015, with Ant-Man, Age of Ultron, Legend, Star Wars, and many more. And this one is less critically acclaimed than most of them too. But the reason why it's here, is because, well I'm a huge James Bond fan, and plus it reminded me of the older films. I also just don't agree with the critics on this one, I think it was superbly well done. And the villain (played by Christopher Waltz), the bond girl (Monica Belluci) and the memorable henchman (Dave Bautista) were all excellent characters, that nailed the roles. My only complaint was the main theme song of this movie, which paled compared to that of Skyfall.
  • Honourable mentions: Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Jurassic World.

Got to hand it to you, you put the effort. And while all those were mentioned already, you gave it a little extra 'sauce' ;)
I will say that Fargo S1 was indeed amazing, and I'm not sure why I haven't started binge watching the 2nd, I will. Your input helped me put it on my 'must see' list.

Invitation sent to join Secret Sauce! Welcome and enjoy the full celebration!

It says there are 250 entries already even though it seems (when looking at your profile) that's not true.

Yeah, I was going to address that in a comment later on. ~35 users used the link but didn't enter - it might be because of lack of points and they'll use it later. But if not.. I'll have nice surprise for those who pay attention. :)

I've promised I'll give my own list of 3 best TV Series & Movies for 2015. So here's part 1 - The Series of 2015.

Overall for series I think it was a pretty good year with some big surprises and some disappointments (will be mentioned later).

Top 3 TV Series:

  1. Daredevil - This one took me completely by surprise, because I've never found DD story line particularly interesting (it seems like the Marvel version of Batman to be honest!) and boy was I proven wrong! Daredevil is gritty, dark, with nigh-perfect choreographed action sequences that left me jaw-dropped (and I'm not one to be swayed by action so that tells you something!). The characters are so well rounded and multi-layered that the main villain will almost break your heart with compassion towards him. Even if you don't like Comics, this show has something for you too. It's very realistic (in comparison to most comics), the comics is almost taking a backseat, and story and characters are in the forefront. (NOTE: It's coming back this month!).
  2. Mr. Robot - Take the concept of Fight Club (go watch it if you haven't!) and combine it with a hacker, the grey-moral rebellious type, who has some deep mental issues and you might get.. just a gimmick. Fortunately, the writers made a fantastic job at rising above the cliché , and the result was a deep, very engaging (it's hard not to binge watch it, you always want to know what happens next) and crafty psychological thriller.
  3. Number 3 is a tough one because two shows are fighting for this spot. Making a Murderer won just because I think it's a breakthrough in the documentary genre. A serialized-documentary made in such a way that you need to keep reminding yourself THIS IS NOT A SCRIPT! IT'S REAL PEOPLE. I'm serious. The editing and the way story progressed from episode to episode feels like watching a regular TV series, where you fear of getting spoilers. I've never seen anything like it. It's an emotional roller coaster, the level of frustration from how things work in the justice system is off the charts. And the lawyers - you're going to hate some of them like they're villains in a comics and you you're gonna think that some are superheroes (two in particular). If you know "Serial", the podcast, you'll see the similarities right away.

Honorable Mention:
Netflix and Marvel collaborations are really setting some new standard for Comics series and Jessica Jones almost got the 3rd spot for it - It's dark, but not in the same way as Daredevil, the darkness isn't in the corrupted city, but in life itself. It's got loneliness, alcoholism, post-trauma and even topics that aren't usually discussed like rape. It took a while (like 3 eps.) for me to get into it. But once I did, it was a very gratifying experience.

Dishonorable Mention:
While not strictly a 2015 series.. I was really looking forward to the 2nd season of True Detective - the first season gave me a flying kick in the head by its sheer uniqueness, the way it dealt with symbolism and an Oscar level acting from the lead actors - so of course I had high expectation from the 2nd season. And it was a complete mess, story was all over the place, Vince Vaughn was terrible in almost every scene, and there was no reason to delve deep into mythos (like Cthulhu) with rich symbolism, like I did for the 1st season, after the series ended.

Hopefully, this wasn't too boring and thanks again for everyone that contributed to this thread! :)
