Hello SG people (also cats, aliens, monsters - you know who you are!)

So a few hours ago I realized I just hit 1 whole year of using this cool site! Yay for me!

It's rare for me to persistently go back to one, somewhat social site, and it's not just because I'm getting free games.
We got such a diverse community here. A lot of creative, awesome, nice and rude (I like both types! Free speech bitches!) individuals.
Before I started using SG I've never tried to create online friendships. I never spent any money on digital friends to make them happy.
SG changed all of that.
I'm getting mad, happy, sad, excited, inspired and everything in the emotion spectrum from being here. Mostly reading though :)
So thanks everyone, I mean it! :D

Well now, let's get this going:
In celebration of this occasion I've picked 3 games that are constantly on users wishlists.

  • Choose the one you want most and I'll create a private giveaway and share it in this thread.
  • There will be no level or other restrictions, but using SGtools I'll cap it to 250 entries.

Countdown to the start of the giveaway!

Also, my super special group (Secret Sauce) will get the 2 other games.

Instead of thanking me or just bumping the thread - tell me the 3 best TV series and 3 best movies for 2015! Extra points if you can explain why! (like a mini-review) for at least one of them.

I'll pick 25 users here to invite to Secret Sauce based on their recommendations so they'll be able to enter the 2 other giveaways (and future ones)!

Edit: My fault for not being clear enough - I meant top 3 movies/series of 2015, not those you catch up with 10 years later :) Sorry!

I'll still consider those who invested time and thought into their comments.

The winning game by popular vote:

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor

Good luck everyone!

My vote is for Middle Earth Shadow of Mordor, aaaaaand:

  • Supernatural: master serie, I'm an abitueé of its fandom and maybe my judgment is not really objective but trust me, if you'll see all its seasons (that I have to admit had its highs and lows) it will definitely change your life (the fraternal love, and the dumb angel, and the witty demons, and the fraternal love, and the feels, aaand...awwwww).
  • How to get away with murder: just to add something almost "brand new", not so original but very thrilling, much suspence, many murders, so wow, such plot twist, and a little (this thime not ironically) complements to its direction because of the magistral management of time in the whole serie.
  • Dexter: because even if all that splatter and bloody stuff it's not my kind of stuff I REALLY loved the bond between Dexter and his sister and Dexter and his wife. At the end it's not totally about serial killing but mostly about love.

And those were the series.
Now, for the movies:

  • The grey: it was my "Liam neeson" period so I searched and watched all his movies (after falling in love with his attitude of brave and proud man and father in the Taken saga) (so why didn't I suggested you Taken? Because if you haven't already watched it or aren't planning of seeing it in the future I'll search for you, I'll found you and...you know the rest) anyway this one was very impressive to me because of the arctic locations (I LOVE movies shooted in that kind of places) and because of the cast (not so famous and not so skilled but very very very "performing" in that kind of script.
  • V/H/S 3: I watched and liked it very much, but I recommend you to start from the first one. Why? I'm very keen on horror movies and I've been searching for a good one for ages: this saga isn't the BEST ONE EVER, but it makes its works and, with this kind of experimental montage it renewed the genre of horror and mockumentary movies.
  • Gangs of New York: I must admit I cheated, this one was a re-watching, but it was on 2015, I swear. I suggest you this one simply because to me is one of the best performance of Di Caprio (regardless of Revenant, still good but not this masterpiece to me) and of course one of the best performances of Daniel Day-Lewis, one of the most talented living actor (according to my humble opinion).

haha, you actually cheated with most of them (Dexter - ended 2013, How to get away with murder - started 2014, The Grey - 2011). But still good mini-reviews. I'll give a whirl to How to get Away with Murder.

Thanks for the call out to us cats! Congrats on another birthday.

I honestly watch almost zero TV (i never even hooked mine up to cable in over a year after moving)

Movies wise I did see a few though,

As everyone else I saw The Martian, which was pretty decent. I also saw Mr. Holmes which was a little slow but still pretty good. Antman was better than I expected it to be. I got drug out by my daughter to see the Peanuts movie... It was what you'd expect it to be.

I mostly watch older tv show and movies.

I'd recommend The Sopranos if you haven't seen it. Iconic and revolutionary show. Really kicked things off for tv shows. Stands the test of time. Game of Thrones is top for me, but you've probably seen it by now, so I'll recommend vikings instead. Other favourite of mine was Spartacus series. Very short review Lots of blood & boobs. But great visuals and characters as well.

Movies. Favs I watched last year. Starwars! Her, watched it with my wife, she liked it too. End of watch. Felt really real and I like Jake ever since Donnie darko.

Series:

  • Game of Thrones: Great fantasy series based on great George’a R.R. Martin book.
  • Curb Your Entusiasm: It is older but watched it for first time in 2015 first in tv next older episodes on net. Super funny series with great actors and also great Larry David.
  • Homeland: Really creators made a great job with this one, always interesting.

Movies:

  • Clear History: Similiar desc. to Curb Your Entusiasm because of the main actor ;)
  • The Machine: Low budget but really great sci fi movie!
  • Labyrinth: Old but kind of nice fantasy/tale, nice music by DB.

ps - I told only those I watched last year, not my all time favorites.

Congratulations and happy belated cake day! Be happy, healthy and wealthy!
Hope you're doing well!
Thank you for your kindness and everything that you are doing!

Bonus > TV shows:

--> 1. The Expanse - lots of interesting characters, lots of twists, the best Sci Fi tv show (in terms of effects and how much effort goes into it -> at least for this year is the best since I don't want to offend Star Wars and Star Trek fans...) there is a sly detective, who is a really interestin "cat" and there are some cool emotional charge to the show. Also, it feels more real and close to the viewer than other sci-fis imho.

--> 2. Blindspot - Try watching the first 3 episodes - the story developes greatly in that time frame - the pilot episode was enough for me, but I guess not for all people - if after the 3rd episode you don't like to watch it - drop it. But I am hooked and it is because I think they mixed a few old cliches with new ideas and concepts in a great way. There is a mystery to it, but the characters are very real and down-to-earth for the most part.

--> 3. Breaking Bad - You probably heard and watched it but i finished it 2015 (although starting 2014, lol). If you need me to elaborate - reply.

P.S.: I have watched Hawai 5-0 > I want to start watching it but I am watching about 5 TV series at a time and it's too much now - is it too late and is it really worth it, if I am into detective stuff? Feedback from you and the users would be appreciated! =)

TV Shows

  • Fargo S2
  • Narcos
  • Hannibal S3

Movies

  • Ex Machina
  • Sicario
  • Spy

As for what I think was overall the best, without a doubt Hannibal! Some people may not like the slow-paces, gory stylistic series created by Bryan Fuller, but imo he made one of the most amazing shows. He took a controversial topic (cannibalism) and ran with it so well that he landed the next Star Trek series (YEP THAT'S RIGHT!)

I can't guarantee you will like it, or even that you can stomach an episode of this show, but if you give it a shot, you will definitely fall in love with the Hannibal/Will Graham relationship that eclipses Hannibal's future tryst with the famous FBI agent we all know.

If you want a dark show + humor + blood + amazingly orgasmic colours + a deep story ====> Watch this show.

Well I chose the long dark!
3 best movies is easy

  1. Star Wars: because it is star wars and its awesome, although I never want to see another death star or planet in my life!!
  2. Kingsman: secret service because it took a whole new look at spy flicks and made it fresh, highly recommend
  3. Mad Max, I thought it would be really bad but was an awesome 2 hour long car chase that never let up!
3 best tv shows... (crickets chirping)
I'll just recommend 3 more movies
Ex Machina, really makes you think!
Spy is hilarious and I loved
Trainwreck is funny too and who knew LeBron could act?!

I totally forgot about Mad Max: Fury Road - It's actually one of the few movies that I really enjoyed in 2015 and like yourself was very skeptical when I approached it. High-Quality action (which usually doesn't do much for me) and a stunning arrangement of weird characters and scenery. I never thought 2 hours of car chase can be so cool.

oh, it's a little old, but I highly recommend orphan black. It's impossible to go into a lot of details wtihout hitting spoiler details, but lets' start with this:

A young woman (the main character) stole money from a drug dealer. She's about to run away out of town, and goes to the train station. As she's waiting for a train, she sees a woman who looks exactly like her, looks at her, then jumps in front of a train. Of course, she decides to steal the woman's identity. Later on she learns there are more of them.

It's a very good drama, somewhat gritty. Before I saw it it was described to me as "the best show you've never heard of", and that was most definitely true

I don't watch TV :P The only series I've seen was The Knick. It was pretty good with some recognizable characters. My girlfriend says the first season was twice that good though (I didn't see it, I was only watching second season with my girlftiend cos she's a fan of the series) :)

The best movie of 2015 for me, personally was Inside Out. And it beats every other movie for me. It was funny, it was touching but most of all it was well thought. The way autors shows you the problem of growing up and changes that young people have to overcome was just beautiful and creative. Really recommended movie.

Other 2 movies I'd recommend to you would be Ex Machina and Martian. Ex Machina is slow-paced movie without many special effects but it kept me interested and focused for the whole time. Martian is more Hollywood-ish but it's still very good movie worth watch :) It made me want to read the book too :)

I've seen Star Wars, Mad Max, Revenant, Minions, Hateful Eight too. Just for you to compare with recommendations :)
Also I already have The Long Dark and not really interested in Kerbal Space Program so you should pick someone else for your group instead of me :) If you've ever considered me anyway :D

I'm gonna second The Knick.
Clive Owen is a surgeon in turn of the century new york. Surgery during that time was revolutionary, with science first coming to play, and a lot of procedures we take for granted either not in existence or highly controversial. It's also set to the backdrop of an interesting historical time and all the problems that come with it.

Honestly, I don't like 3D animated movies. I rarely enjoy them and most of them are forgettable. But I'll consider watching Inside Out (even if it was so hyped it made me want to stay away from it). The Knick looks like an interesting series so I'll definitely check it out.

As for the invitation - even if you don't enter those particular GAs, there will be more in the future and I'm sure you'll find some you'd like. So.. invitation sent anyway!

Inside Out was very good movie for me but everybody has different taste (I didn't enjoy Mad Max much for example) :) But I have to say it made me laugh a couple of times and it even almost made me cry :P

I'll give you The Revenant since IMDB say it's 2015 (although most of the world and my country saw it on 2016) ;) - I'm planning on seeing it. Good cast and a good director (who directed the Oscar winning Birdman).
I've watched a few eps of The Man in The High Castle, it has all the right ingredients for me - a novel by Philip K. Dick, alternative history, dystopian world, fine actors - but I don't know, it's moving slowly and not much is going on. Hope it will pick up from where I am (watched 3 eps).

TV:

  • Cheers

    -Deep Space Nine

  • Eureka

To be blunt, I like shows about communities, rather than exploration. Hence it's DS9 over Enterprise. It's enjoyable to watch how different characters develop and interact with one another, rather than seeing new worlds or finding new stuff.

Movies:

The Lethal Weapon series

4 movies, and for a buddy-cop movie, they are not afraid of censoring anything. Remember that this was an old movie ("We're not too old for this s##t!" - Roger Murtaugh), and I'm surprised that they were willing to let it go that far. Anyway, I consider it 'Die Hard', with twice the fun.

The Accidental Hero

This one's one of those movies that had a personal impact on me. I watched it when I was young, and I can still remember most of the story. It's meant to be a comedy, but if you ignore that aspect it starts to become one heck of a thought-provoking movie. The term 'Right place, right time' applies here.

The Naked Gun series

Comedy's a big factor here, and for a classic, the jokes from it are still golden. From the awesome intro music (and the quirks from driving a police car), to the jokes, this is just a great series to watch. Oh, they also had Leslie Nielsen, one of THE most funny actors I've seen in my life.

Oh god, i wouldnt know about the best of 2015.. Im bad with that kinda stuff D:
Here's a bump though!

I think theyre both older than 2015 but I've really enjoyed Mad Max and uhh Big Hero 6 ? :D I'm too sleepy and that's all i could think of at the moment haha... I also watched Breaking Bad and Daredevil those were pretty good

My favorite movie at the moment would be Big Hero 6 for sure though, I've watched it at least 4 times and it hasn't gotten boring :) I'm such a kid.
There's also Fight Club which I watched a few days ago for the first time ever. That movie is very very old though. But it's one of those mindfcuk movies that i really enjoy to watch for some reason :P You can always see me googling all the movie theories and explanations right after the movie ends.

All of this has made me think about how little I've gone to the movies these months :( It makes me so sad. I hope i can catch up on a few movies soon!!

How about you Amorphism? Is there anything you would like to suggest us to watch? :) I'm really in need of some entertainment these days!!

I'll give you an answer for 3 best series & movies in 2015 when the event is over.
In the meantime, if you like mindfucks go watch Enemy - I think it's an underrated masterpiece. It has one of my favorite actors of the decade Jake Gyllenhaal. It deals with identify, the idea of a doppelganger.. and I don't want to say anymore. You'll have plenty to google after you finish watching it.
Also from the same actor Nightcralwer is superb. Both are thrillers by the way. Nightcrawler deals with a topic I haven't seen in all my life watching movies.
