instead of displaying who has won a giveaway straight after the contest has ended, why not display the winner after they have acknowledged receipt of the gift?

I'm not clear how that prevents scamming though?

Because people disguise themselves as the winner in order to trick people to give them the gifts, if this was done people wouldn't be able to do that.

Also it should be noted this idea has been suggested heaps of times.

Oh I see I was thinking more about detecting scam listings not scamming post winning. Makes more sense.

Well emailing would be easter but you could just add them through the winner of the box thing

I've been suggesting that for quite a while, but not yet accepted/not accepted.

People should learn try to prevent being scammed.

First, check the winner profile link

Second, check the friend link

Third, see if they matched

If yes, gift him/her

If no, block

I'm afraid giving advice here doesn't help much. Chances are, if one is reading the forum, they either have been scammed already, or are never going to be, because they've also read the FAQ etc.

Another point is, when the gifter gets scammed this way, it's usually the winner who gets the short end of the stick (I guess). He spent the points, won, was looking forward to a game, and poof, nothing. So this hide-the-winners-until-they-confirm-receiving isn't primarily gifter protection, but winner protection -- protection of those who simply can't defend themselves in this situation.

Surprisingly, only 30% of all internet users have an e-mail address. 15% of that 30% can actually remember their passwords. 50% of that 15% use the password "Chocobo69".

Fun facts.

As some posters above, been suggesting and waiting for this for quite a while now. I think it would be a great feature.

Good idea, that would put an end to all scammers :)

It would probably require a major rework of the site.

The way to circumvent this is to simply scrape the profiles of all users constantly and query what stuff they've won.

Thus you'd also have to ensure that
1) It doesn't show up on the gift page
2) Doesn't show up on the main page
3) Doesn't show up as 'won' on the user's profile
4) Doesn't show up on the 'gifters' user profile
Until it is verified by the winner

Not impossible but it does require a lot of logic rework I think

This has been suggested many times over and cg has been looking at a way to properly implement. We appreciate your patience.
