So i just finished Fallout 1, 3 and 4. And found myself like 1 alot better. The RPG mechanics were alot better and i am a fan of turn based combat. So now i ask you whats your favorite fallout?

+1

As much as I was prepared to be let down and hate it, I ended up loving it. Already finished one playthrough, and trying to find time to squeeze in another. :X

Old fallouts (1-2-tactics) and new fallouts (3-NV-4) shouldn't be compared together.

Old fallout: 2 (2 > 1 > Tactics)
New fallout: NV or 4, didn't decide yet because I'm in the middle of the story from 4, but for now it's NV. (NV > 4 > 3)

(Please note that it's my personal opinion)

No - I don't want to hurt your feelings with this post
Yes - I now know you really exist and actually played other games of the series

It is not about preferences.it is about the devs turning a pretty deep RPG into a mediocre FPS, which, for some reason, gets so overhyped instead of being criticized.
Imagine the next episode of Star Wars being a comedy with Jim Carry. It is pretty much the same.
Still I am starting to get an image of those who voted for FO4, thx 4 ur post.

Your imagine is probably wrong, because i'm a huge fan of Fallout series and started from FO2, which i think one of the best game ever made. And i think that your argument about "mediocre FPS" only shows that you didn't played FO4 or played only 10 hours max. People starting to forget what RPG really means, and this is what really hurts.

No, we do not forget. And cutting the wall of text dialog system to a few short phrases is like a slap in the face. I started gaming when I was in school with F2 and seeing what they done to series is painful.

RPG for me, especially Fallout series, for me was never only about dialogs. People forgetting about other very important part of RPG games - exploring. Fallout 1-2 never has a good main storyline, it was all about world and sidequests. In Fallout 2 one of the most awesome thing in my opinion was one of the best random encounters ever, i wondered around world map just to find more of them. FO4 have tons of sidequest and random events, that nobody will point you to find, you can easily miss most of them if you'll simply rush through main storyline. In FO4 i just enjoying wandering and finding adventures on my ass, and game still keeps delivering after 150 hours. Yes, Bethesda fucked up dialog system, but they done exploring damn right, and that's why i didn't think that they destroyed Fallout. Of course, it's all only my opinion (and most my thoughts i can't explain to you because i'm still not that good in english), but Fallout 4 is RPG, just different kind.

I think it's like those debates "Is Diablo an RPG?" which leads to nowhere. But I agree they do make good open worlds, still they do it it "bethesda way". I mean in old Fallout you can feel you are traveling across huge wasteland exploring the part of west coast. I can't say the same about new ones. Narrow territories with a high population and encounters density makes me feel like I'm a part of a Hollywood movie and these all are decorations.

P.S. Well, your english is better then mine :)

RPG is not about exploring, it is about playing as a character in a story and influencing the story as if you were that character. If exploration would equal RPGs, any walking simulator would be an RPG. Not to mention that some of the classic high-rated cRPGs like KotOR 1 are played on almost corridor-like linear maps.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Exploring didn't mean huge nonlinear openworlds, in KOTOR and other "linear" RPG you still explore locations that you visiting. When you first arriving in City, you always exploring it to find merchants, interesting places or characters, and of course looking for new quests. And by your logic great story and nonlinear choices also can be equal RPGs, because any quest or adventure game like Blade Runner or Silent Hill would be an RPG. Hell, even Wing Commander fits to this criteria. What i'm trying to say, that if game didn't have rich dialog system it didn't automatically means that this is not RPG, and vice versa.

Well if your preferences make it an RPG worth of the place in the Fallout franchise, I can do nothing about this.
Also I didn't know your feelings are so fragile and you can be insulted by some random guy's opinion. Really sorry.

So, the meaning of your post is not try to insult people who like FO4 in your first post? Because it was looked like this, and as you see it's looked like this not just for me.

Assuming I was insulted is arrogance on your part. Your opinion of me doesn't mean enough for me to be insulted. I was pointing out your immaturity and hypocrisy in insulting Inquisitor for his opinion.

Like I said, real classy. And you continue to impress me with your classiness and inimitable sense of logic. ;)

Or ... I could act like you (if you prefer) and say something brilliant like "CSGO sucks. It's the same as UT from 10 years ago. I don't own it and have never played it, but it sucks." See how ridiculous that sounds? ;)

I don't know why you think you hurt my "feelings". I've made it clear you didn't.

so I don't even see the reason why you joined all this

It's an open forum. See cherrymonk about that.

What do you think about your own post judging my personality? Was it polite enough? :D

Actually, my initial reply was to your bit about "it's not about preferences" (which is the very definition of opinion) and "Still I am starting to get an image of those who voted for FO4, thx 4 ur post", which I felt was uncalled for and immature, not to mention completely dismissive of anyone whose opinion doesn't coincide with your own. All I said was "Classy" (albeit in complete sarcasm).

My apologies if you feel I misjudged you, or your perception of what's rude or immature might vary from my own.

So that basically means you join any random conversation to tell other people how bad they are and show off with sophisticated sarcasm just because it is an open forum and you can do that. Even though you don't actually care about those guys' opinions and your feelings weren't hurt.
I didn't really need the appologies for misjudging or other stuff (still thx). I just wondered if you find this appropriate to publicly discuss someones' personality and if you are able to see how strong the irony is.

This is an open forum - we're free to reply to whom we please when we please. My sarcasm was pretty obvious and consisted of one word - Classy. If you feel it was "sophisticated or showing off", that's on you. It was solely reference to your comment. It was you who implied you could determine what kind of person one is by their choice of game -- "Still I am starting to get an image of those who voted for FO4, thx 4 ur post." -- You don't find that at all dismissive and rude? I do, and I'm actually a bit boggled that you don't see how rude that is. But whatever. it's irrelevant.

You made a broad, sweeping, negative generalization of people who didn't agree with your personal preference (aka opinion) and subsequently dismissed them for it. To me, that's rude and immature. It's akin to saying "Oh, you like pepperoni on your pizza? In that case, your opinion doesn't count. Kthanksbye." Pretty rude, eh? (rhetorical). I called you on it and said you were being rude and immature, nothing more.

At this point, however, it would appear that we're just talking in circles. It's clear you feel I was out of line, and I feel you were out of line. I believe it would be best to agree to disagree and move on. We're just wasting one another's time now. ;)

New Vegas. That's the closest the series came to a First-Person fallout 1 & 2.
Fallout 4 is a decent shooter, but with it's watered down RPG elements, it's more Borderlands than it is Fallout.

Fallout 1 had a great story and writing but it didn't really have a lot of replayability and some minor gameplay "problems" that they fixed in F2.
Fallout 2 was overall the best game. Slightly worse story but everything els was more or less better.
Fallout tactics was an awesome spinoff but not a great Fallout/RPG game.
Fallout 3 had a really good map/world but the writing/story and several locations/people in the game made no sense/sucked.
Fallout New Vegas was better at most stuff over Fallout 3 but the map/world was so empty and boring. The DLC's rocked tho!
Fallout 4 is a fun game but the RPG is gone.. I do like it but as a Fallout game it is quite weak.

Never touched the piece of shit on Xbox but out of all the other games i guess Fallout 2 is the best. New vegas was much better with mods where F3 was just a bit better.

Good to see that somebody who liked NV also admitted that it has very empty and boring world. I like this game, completed main story and all sidequests except DLCs, but i just can't stand how bad map in this game compared to FO3. It shame that you didn't liked world in FO4, IMO it's really good and keeps surprising me, and i didn't even finished main story.

FO2 overall, FO1 for main plot, FO:NV for modability and base game mechanics, FO3 for map. Tactics isn't bad, but being a person whose first AAA game was Commandos: Behind Enemy Lines, it always felt like a very weak attempt. FO4â€Ķ unless I win it, I'll only get it when the entire game is released. So far what I've seen it is a fun FPS with a great map, and the usual Bethesda level terrible writing.
