I just bought 4pack with friends. And then I got very popular message on gamersgate: Unfortunately, we are out of serial keys. The developers have been contacted and we will supply keys as soon as they are delivered to us. We apologize for the inconvenience. [2]

Why they can't inform me before buy ...We are out of keys ? I was thinking they learn something from their mistakes, but no. So if you don't want to wait don't buy it.

I hope it won't take long like previous one.

This is very unfortunate indeed. I hope you get your keys soon.

My guess is that either between the time you added the 4pack to your cart and finalized the purchase someone else got the last key they had in "stock" or they don't bother to check before letting the transaction go through. Either way sorry man, hope you get your keys.

They don't bother, it's a wide known fact by now - well, at least after their winter sales ;).

Its a very common tactic for retailers to oversell their stock. GG seems to run into this a lot for it to be an accident by any means.

Steam also does this so...

Steam never does this.

Yes they do.

If I recall correctly they've done it in past but it usually gets resolved relatively quickly and it's very rare it actually happens at all.

I happen to recall one of the games in their recent Weekends deal having a red box saying that they ran out of keys. I believe it was Dark Souls: Prepare to die Edition. They "Buy Now" button was still active too, I believe.

new info from GG FB page

GamersGate

Hi everyone! Unfortunately, we are out of serial keys on Borderlands 2 due to the high demand. You can still buy the game with 66% discount but you will receive the key as soon as we recieve them from the publisher./Iony

We would say next week. I don't have an exact estimation, but as soon as I get more info I will let you know./Iony

Btw I don't think so they have some check, how many keys left. They try to sell much possible copies. Without any warning. In this way is GMG better they mark it as Out of stock and you can't buy it.

yes, I agree, I think it is a better system than on GMG

One would argue that GMG's "we're out of keys, come back tomorrow to buy it for full price instead" is much worse than GG's "we're out of keys, but it now with -XX% and get your keys tommorow".

Agreed, though I can understand wanting a warning before you hit the final "Complete purchase"

They never inform you that they are out of keys because they would lose money, it's simple!

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Agreed. If they tell people they're out of keys, people won't buy them. They'd rather just take your money and then say "Oops, our bad, you'll have to wait for the thing you paid for."

They can still lose money. You bought it, they didn't inform u before buying it that they don't have keys and you will get it later you can happy get your money back (in paypal/card case). They sold something they don't have (doesn't matter if they will have it later or not) atm they don't have it.

L.E.: If I try to sell something I don't have (doesn't matter that I will have it later) I risk ending up in jail.

As soon as they notice that the keys are out, they update the page to say so.

You can however still buy them, as the discounts will go away after a certain time. And people would get very pissed if they didn't get their discount because they didn't have enough keys.

And no, it's not their fault that they don't have keys, as they cannot request keys from Steam directly, but have to do it through the publishers. So if it's slow, blame Gearbox for not responding fast enough.

It's their fault. They can reserve/order 2x...3x..100x more keys :)

Even if they do, it'll run out eventually.

And then they have to get more.

God forbid a company tell you whether they actually possess the thing they are taking your money in exchange for BEFORE taking your money.

Would you rather they don't sell it to you for the sale price, instead making you wait until the sale is over then offering it at normal price once they have attained more keys?

I would rather it popup right before actually taking my money from my account and say "Hey, it seems we are out of keys for this item right now. We expect to have more by X date. Would you still like to make this purchase? YES/NO"

Happens everywhere from time to time including on Steam, at least they still allow you to buy it when the discount is active, kudos to them.

They should still let you know they don't currently have keys before they take your money. The consumer has a right to know if they are actually going to get the thing they are paying for today today. What other business is allowed to take your money, then tell you they don't have what you paid for?

They do tell you. "Unfortunately, we are out of serial keys due to the high demand. You can still buy the game with 66% discount but you will receive the key as soon as we recieve them from the publisher." right there on the page for that product in RED print. Take the discount or don't. people need to just quit there whining all the time.

Cool story bro. Unfortunately they never told many of us anything of the sort. Do they tell people sometimes? Maybe. All the time? Definitely not. Check your facts before you act like a condescending tool.

My guess is that they ran out of keys and didn't notice right away, pretty much every place I ever ordered from including Steam has done this. Even on physical items, like I would place an order and they would charge me, then go "Uh oh" and send me a message asking if I want to wait or have a refund.

So yeah pretty cool story.

I feel like the new cool thing to do here is bash GG, chill out, its not that big a deal, ask for a refund if you don't feel like waiting.

It's a shady business practice. If you don't mind it, that's fine. But lots of other people do. You have no right to tell everyone who is bothered by it that they shouldn't be.

I've bought things from them on two occasions without them telling me they were out of keys. I had to either go through a customer service ticket to get my money back, or wait for the thing I already paid for. The BBB frowns on activity like that.

If I take a gallon of milk to the register, they ring it up, I pay for it... but then they take the milk back and tell me that I can't have the milk until next month maybe... OR I can go wait in line for a refund? Yeah. A lot of cashiers are going to get punched in the face.

So I guess you never had this experience with other retailers? Even with physical items? I have often, mainly its them not updating fast enough which would happen more so with really good sales.

I feel like you disregarded everything I wrote so. No point in talking to those that don't see reason or logic.
