I'm sure I've seen threads like this before, so pardon the spam, though I've never given too much attention to them.
Thing is, 2 weeks ago, I've reached exactly 2.00 and entered some lvl2 GAs, then next day it was down to 1.96, now I was hoping to lvl up with 1 GA again, but guess what! 1.76.
Therefore I must ask: WTF?
I had heard there was a level decay, however 12% in 2 weeks is incomprehensible. If the decay is that big, thus forcing one to do a torrent of GAs to keep up, I must question the goodwill of SG. Hopefully this is not the case and I'm overlooking something stupid, thus I'm here asking what that might be.
Btw, I "scanned" the FAQ again and didn't find an answer.

sry, no GA until I know the answer
Edits:
NOW WITH GA, not much but I'm sure there's someone somewhere who wants it. Just check my profile, they're open GAs.

There is no such thing as "decay". The value of some of the game you gave away must have decreased in steam, or maybe it was retroactively added to the bundle list.

Eh... I think decay is a pretty good word to describe it. Slowly, and inevitably over time, your level will decrease due to price drops.

As far as the current system goes, that is not true. You may give away a game that will never change price, and will never be bundled, thus, your CV will never decrease. Decay is not an accurate word in this scenario.

You're talking about one game. I'm talking about the bigger picture here. Your level will drop over time if you've given more than a handful of games.

Again, that's not entirely accurate, you may give away a handful of games that will never decrease in price and will never be bundled, or maybe they could even increase in price? I don't know if your CV increases in such cases, However, I get what you mean.

If the system remains like it is right know, yes, maybe never. Do you have any evidence against it in all the possible scenarios?

you only gave away bundle games. While they may have not been added to list yet, they were already in bundles when you created these GAs. The moment they got added to bundle list your level got retroactively reduced. It's on what it should be in the first place: http://www.sgtools.tk/sent/Vlvgmr
. So no - it's not a case of a bug that your level lowered. It was a bug that you were lvl 2 in the first place :>

Seems zelghadis already explained it, but it would be a shame to let all this pointless typing go to waste. Yay. :)

I'm sure I've seen threads like this before, so pardon the spam, though I've never given too much attention to them.

Guess that explains all the previous threads... Wonder if reading one of them would have answered your question... :) Oh well, easier for us to read them and provide a summary to you. :)

While it does happen that a game's price is reduced in the Steam store (leading to your feared "level decay") the usual answer is games from your previous giveaways being added to the bundle list retroactively.

The bundle list is managed by an actual human, it's not automatic. So it's quite common for people to buy a bundle, make some giveaways, and get a quick boost of precious Steamgifts "levels." Later, the bundle list is updated and those precious levels disappear. Then they wonders where their precious levels went, and ask in the forum. Every single day. :)

Do you think the people who will ask this question tomorrow could have saved time by reading this answer today? Yes. :) Do you think they ever will? No. :)

There is no fixed or intentional 'decay'. But contributor level will tend to decrease because games tend to decrease in price over time in the Steam store where this site pulls its information from. Also sometimes games are retroactively added to the bundled list or there are occasional temporary glitches. Sometimes you can go a long time without any changes - sometimes, and especially if you have made fewer giveaways, a few changes can make a big difference in a short time.
