Even though it's incomplete, I enjoyed Cortex Command, despite its abysmal Metacritic score of 44. But there must be other low-metascore games out there people have enjoyed!

I guess that will never be finished huh? I think I got it in a Humble way back when it was still new

I don't trust the metascore, If I have a doubt about a game I read lot of user comments and watch some gameplay on youtube.

Yeah. It's always worth remembering that the professional reviewers play these games as part of their job, so they can naturally have a skewed perception of titles given their own personal tastes and wants don't always factor into who does the review. Besides, the player reviews can't be bought, and even if there are faked player reviews you can get the keenest insight by reading down a few of the comments for common themes/concerns/positives.

Mercs 2 basically doomed most of the games where I live.

10/10 GOTY :D

I thought Mercs 2 was pretty disappointing. The first one was great but the second one was just a buggy mess. I can't even tell you how many times soldiers would spawn in the sky and just fall to their deaths over and over. Just Cause 2 ended up being what Mercs 2 should've been.

Clive's Barker Jericho. Got around 60 on metascore. But i think it's pretty fun to play. I'd say the game is quite underrated.

Gothic 3(metascore 63)- i get why score is so low, it was buggy mess if released and didnt run good even highend computers.
But i think its worth to play even today(use latest Community Patch!). Its cheap(frequently below 3€), world is big, lot of quests, graphic is not so bad(if you dont forget it was released 2006), bugs are patched. Gothic 3 Forsaken Gods(standalone expansion for Gothic III, made by other developers) deserve 44 metascore, its crap.
Risen 3(metascore 65)- not for everybody and definitely has its flaws but its not bad game. Im sure it have big discounts soon, worth to try with sale price if you dont have prejudice(its crap because AJ says so).

I actually really quite enjoyed Windforge. Admittedly it did have quite a few bugs but few of them were game-breaking in any way. So long as you remember to use the quicksave feature occasionally, any hiccups are more likely to amuse you rather than frustrate you. Granted, the set-up is a little bit clumsy and it won't be for everyone, but it's a fresh environment for the entire "Mine -> Smelt -> Build" formula.

Windforge is quite grindy, but somehow incredibly fun. Steampunk + grappling hook = win :)

Binary Domain is an awesome game. i enjoyed it a lot. metascore 68...

Well a score of 68 isn't really that low when you take it from a point of 100 meaning "absolute perfection" and 50 meaning "just about tolerable". I was pleasantly surprised at the running narrative/story and especially the boss / mini-boss fights. Normally I hate games with "Bullet Wiffle", where you sink entire clips into enemies with seemingly no fatal effect, but it really worked here, and it actually felt like the bullets were doing something (just that the enemies were walking tanks)

+1 it was a better Gears Of War, not sure why it was hated, actually beat it, I rarely beat games.

Contrast has its problems, but it's a really nice game. 62 is way too low in my opinion.

Uusually no. I trust more user reviews but they also can't show how the game is. I remember I have enjoyed bad games.

Rogue Warrior, which has a current score of 29 on PC. I thought it was an average game, kinda fun too until you'd watched all the kill moves over a few times. The credits soundtrack on the other hand...well, 29's too high for that shit. XD

Deus Ex: The Fall (45/26 balls). If you're a fan of Deus Ex universe - add 20/30 balls; if you've read Deus Ex: Icarus Effect book - add another 20/30 balls

Chaos Engine is a real classic and got a metascore of 40. way too low, it's a cool game and still fun to this very day. especially in co-op. userscore is 8.0, btw.
