No user name, no games name.
A few days ago I traded one of my games for a tradable gift using steam windows.
I did not activated my new game, but 3/4 days later I have realized that my gift was disappeared from my inventory.

No Steam advice/mail of such event has been sent to me.

Asked to the user that gave me the game and he told me he received this from another user.

So I contacted the steam support, and a few minutes ago I received this reply

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Thank you for contacting Steam Support.

A gift subscription that you recently accepted in your account has been removed. The transaction has been reported as fraudulent.

Please refrain from accepting Steam gifts from unknown sources in the future. Valve reserves the right to refer the matter to the appropriate authorities if such activity continues.

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Just to know, in the past someone else had same trouble?
Of course i don't have received back the game I traded for missing game.

To everybody, maybe in the past a game you traded has been removed from your inventory/account and you have still not realize..

This IMHO is a huge risk for every Steam user...

was probably due to a chargeback. People steal credit cards. If it was a trade you can ask steam to get the game you traded (if it was a gift as well) back i believe. If it was for a key, you got boned :/

If you traded through steam trade system they must give your stuff back. If you have traded for game keys, then you lost your games.

Steam says it will give you your item back if the item you received was chargedback.

"What if I redeemed a game from a trade that is fraudulently purchased?

If this happens, the account where the fraud took place will be suspended. Your account will not be suspended, however the game you redeemed/unpacked to your account will be removed. We will restore the items/gifts that were associated with the trade that you performed to receive the game."

http://steamrep.com/ is a good place to see if the trader is reputable before you trade. You can see if he is a reported scammer or not.

But if i traded this item before it misses to another user, my rep is great but someone else would have lost the item anyway

And adding to that you will get a bad rep for trading that game.

I had a similar problem (gift for gift trade) and then the game was removed from my inventory.

After contacting support and sending them a screenshot of my trading history (yeah, as if they can't access it on their own), I got my games back.

Probably not all of the support staff has access to all kinds of information. So in these cases they ask for a screenshot.

Steam is indeed a scam. If you used trading window to get that gift subscription, you should've received your traded gift back.

But they didn't automatically reverse the trade - which is visible to naked eyes of Support. What a great company that is.

So, you didn't even get a message that the game disappeared?

I have to track ALL my games I recently traded, just to be on the safe side?

I need to write a game tracker that detects missing games and automatically sends an email .__.

That really sucks but I think he won't get his gift back. It happen to someone I know, he had contact support & after few weeks he recieved a negative answer. The steam support told him that the payment of the gift had been chargeback & he gets screwed. If everybody knew about this, I think it will be more scam attempt of this type. Steam should work to protect their customers against these type of scams, it's just incredible how deaf they are when they are wrong. Im sad u learn it the hard way Naporsocapo

They say they will replace lost items if it was done within the trading window.

What a lot of people replying here are overlooking is the clear language that Steam is using to imply that the OP is somehow involved in the wrongdoing (despite no evidence on their part, and probably with evidence to the contrary). He is warned to not accept Steam gifts from unknown sources (kind of the definition of trading) and is given a mild threat that authorities might be involved if he continues in his "bad" behavior (i.e. continues being an innocent victim).

While I don't blame Valve at all for removing games that were charged back or bought with stolen credit cards, there is no excuse for how they treated the OP as complicit in the wrong-doing and how they did not immediately reverse the trade (giving him his traded game(s) back).

The worst part is that they don't alert you to removing something from your inventory/library... that is complete BS IMO... if we're being SAFE by trusting what Steam has in place to allow SAFE trades and then they don't keep them selves accountable but put all blame on us is not fair at all.

Yea, one of the games I won on here got charged back by the guy who gifted it to me, but he says that it was a problem with the bank and not intentional.

I don't trade on Steam, but I guess that if you traded entirely in the trade window and one of the items was charged back, then Steam would reverse the trade and give back the item?

EDIT: having just re-read the post, it looks like they don't reverse the trade.... That's a bit shit really.
