I just came across this on the tf2r.com page

http://tf2r.com/k8yprq.html

The description states: "Good morning, comerades. I am giving away a steamgifts code. I do not have the code right now, but I will get it to you. Enjoy, comerades. Also, please add me if you win."

And found another one:

http://tf2r.com/k26k4b.html

Title: Winner gets
Message: A steamgifts.com invite when I wake up I will reraffle if you do not claim within five hours

Why do people feel the need to do this? This is why this site is going to hell. Because anyone at all can get in that way.

This has nothing to do with the issue at hand. The issue is not the amount of money required on an account. (Which I think your proposal is kinda stupid, since not all of us have that much money on our accounts, but not all of us are idiotic users of this site either.) The issue is people selling or trading invites to this site. When the rule states "Do NOT sell/trade invites".

Seriously. What is with this? Isn't this against this sites rules? Isn't there anything that can be done?

"Because anyone at all can get in that way."

As someone who got in that way, I resent that comment. Granted, I don't bring much (or even anything, so far) to the table, but at least I know better not to take a shit on said table either.

As long as people are made accountable for the behavior of whoever they let in, I feel that is a sufficient disincentive to give out invites randomly. If they trust their fellow tf2r.com users enough to risk a banning if they act out, that should be up to them.

The point, however, is that the FAQ rules state "Do NOT sell/trade invites". And I do believe that the thing when you generate invites, or else in the thread from when invites opened again it said not to give them to people you don't know. So putting them up for raffle on tf2r.com is a violation it seems. Or at least it makes people and this site look bad.

Way I'm looking at it, if people want to gamble by inviting people they don't know they should be allowed to do so as long as they are held accountable. It worked out for me: I don't expect to get banned as I don't intend to rip anyone off or anything like that, so whoever took the chance of inviting me won't get no trouble out of me. And neither will you or anyone else on SG.

And seeing as how the rules don't explicitly prohibit inviting strangers, and there are only provisions against trading them, raffling is not a violation of the rules. A raffle is a one-way transfer of goods, and if that qualifies as a trade then so does charity or finding money on the street.

Is it arbitrary to prohibit trading but not raffling of invites? Absolutely, but let's not get into technicalities. As long as people are held accountable when whoever they let in turns out undesirable, I see little cause to trouble ourselves with it.

Is it ironic that people on a site about giving things away complain about people giving things away? Does a raffle count as selling/trading? There are lots of sites I go to where I feel like I 'know' the people there.

Note: I don't know or care to look up what tl2r.com is

I believe it has been decided already that giving invites away is alright, be it by holding a raffle or by just giving it to a pal. The issue only occurs when you try to trade that code for some form of recompense other than respect or friendship (which is magic).

He is not trading the invite, he is giving it away trough a raffle, I don't see why you people have a problem with that, and why in earth you could possibly think that it isn't allowed to do that.

Obviously, why in the fate would you give Invite to random person? He can be a troublemaker, and raffler can create "that troublemaker". I know giveawaying invites is not against the rules but seriously.

(Which is why this rule stands: "Please make sure the people YOU invite follow rules")
