For starters, this is my opinion as a member of the site, and not a moderator.

Every time a new bundle is posted, the comments are generally full of posts saying "this bundle sucks", "not for me", "all repeats", chains of "meh", etc.

These comments are, by and large, completely useless and spammy.

Just because you have all the games, or you don't like the particular genre, doesn't mean the bundle isn't a great deal for somebody else. Someone new to Steam, the bundle scene, or missed a previous bundle. Someone who likes Point and Clicks even though you hate them, etc.

What I'd like to see, personally, is more opinions on the individual games within the bundle. "Hey, game X is really great if you like that genre", "I don't like SHMUPS, but game Y still entertained me", "I really dig ARPGs, but game Z really falls short", "If you're only interested in this game, check out this bundle instead". Something that would be actually useful to potential buyers of the bundle. You owning all or most of the games is not relevant information to anyone else. You not liking the genre isn't really relevant. Even saying "You might want to check this out if you love FPS's" is more useful than "meh, not for me".

Just my thoughts. I'd like to see more helpfulness in general.

By this logic, you made a complaint about a complaint about a complaint...He at least wrote three paragraphs and stated clearly what he means, your two sentences are what's adding close to 0.

I agree with bobo's opinion and I think it's about time someone said those "this bundle sucks" fuckers that noone wants to read that useless crap.

He added a very valuable opinion where he backed up what he thought with reason.

It made sense. And claiming that "ppl wont chance coz your opinion" is pretty bold and broad.

I, for one, was inspired to try and add value to those threads in the future. I'm not one to complain about bundles, but I could still be helpful to others.

In the end, his statement was positive, helpful, and is working toward trying to get people to work together to help one another.

The OP has matured considerably here and is wiser than perhaps most that surround him.

The level of actual discussion on this forum seems to have been declining over time. There is barely anything worth looking at and I feel even less inclined to reply than I normally do (which isn't very much anyway, but oh well).

People actually putting in some kind of effort would be nice, but it may be too much to ask I feel.

Declining over time? Seems it has been holding steady at being next to complete trash pretty much as long as i have been using this site. It is the main reason i usually avoid the forums like the plaque and only check it now and again to see if anyone posted any threads about good deals somewhere.

I'd say the proportion of interesting to uninteresting comments has probably stayed the same (which has indeed never really been all that good), but due to the increasing population on the site, the quantity of uninteresting material is increasingly giving me more crap to wade through to find something of interest.

I don't mind repeats too much as long as the bundle has some nonrepeats.

I do think it's odd though that some games have been in a bundle like 4+ times. (I think Doublefine is guilty of this?)

Writing "meh" under every bundle release is not a 'personal opinion', it's a worthless defecation out of a wrong hole.
Noone would mind those people if they at least explained why they don't like the bundle but they're just writing "meh".
Also, not liking the bundle only because you have all the games already is actually detrimental to other people - they may think the bundle is bad while it's just this person being an idiot for writing "meh" for good games just for already owning them...

I agree the "meh" and "bad bundle" comments aren't really helpful and would like to see more constructive and informative comments about the games like the examples you gave. However, comments like "great bundle" and "definite buy" could be viewed as similarly spammy. They don't add a whole lot to the conversation either and "You owning [none] or [few] of the games is not relevant information to anyone else." Please don't mistake my comment as aggressive. I'm simply playing the devil's advocate and pointing out that it's a bit hypocritical to target just the negative comments.

Imo the guys getting upset about this are just as annoying as the guys complaining about the bundles, if not worse.
There's this certain group of people on SG nowadays who like to tell people what to think and what to say, and if people don't comment in exactly the same way they themselfs would they tend to get upset quite a bit, calling people ungrateful/cheap simply for not liking a certain product a retailer is offering.
Why is it that EVERY time a guy comments "meh bundle, got most games" or "BTA is too high for my taste" people get offended so easily, but yet when it comes to actual rules on SG like the rule that you can't post political stuff is ignored?

I for one am not bothered by those negative comments, I normally check the comments on SG before even having a look at a bundle just to know if i should keep an eye on the bta or if it's a waste of time.

Less complaining about complainers, more, saying I'd like to see helpful comments in those threads instead.

Just FYI, I wasn't referring to you when mentioning that group of people, it seems like it's mostly just new people who've gotten used to seeing such replies and in turn started replying that way every chance they get. (kinda like how it goes with memes)

But concerning your reply; I think it kinda depends on how you look at those threads, for me those comments tend to be really useful, like i said when i'm busy and a new bundle goes live it's nice to know if all games included are crappy games, or maybe there's a gem in there that i've overlooked or never really looked into (sang-froid comes to mind, would have missed that one if it wasn't for some anon on SG)
That way I know if the BTA will go through the roof or that it will go down considerably, and if I have some leftovers from that bundle i can decide wether to list them on ST or not depending on the comments on that bundle.

I think bundle quality has dropped a lot this year. The repeat games have risen dramatically and more and more bundles are consisting almost entirely of games I've never heard of (not to mention a lot of those are greenlight games or android games). Also the increasing use of tiers making it much harder to afford the bundles now that there's so many different ones every week. Especially when most people only want maybe 1 or 2 games out of an entire bundle making the higher tiers not really worth it.

Of course a lot of the bundles are a great price regardless but after the last few years of amazing bundles it's hard not to feel disappointed with the current selection.

1 decade ago
Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think we still get the same number of "premier" bundles, but there is much, much more filler in between.

For example, as I posted here:

Humble Indie Bundle: May 4–10, 2010
Humble Indie Bundle 2: December 14–24, 2010
Humble Frozenbyte Bundle: April 12–26, 2011
Humble Indie Bundle 3: July 26 – August 9, 2011
Humble Frozen Synapse Bundle: September 28 – October 12, 2011
Humble Voxatron Debut: October 31 – November 14, 2011
Humble Introversion Bundle: November 22 – December 6, 2011
Humble Indie Bundle 4: December 13–27, 2011

Look at the times in between bundles in the past. Now you have 3 bundles every two weeks, and ~4 months between main HIB instead of 7. Humble gives you more deals, more options, more often now. Even if you're only buying the "Main" bundles, you're getting them more often than what they used to offer.

I wont deny that great bundles are still coming out but they are just getting overwhelmed with all the weekly bundles, android bundles, non-gaming bundles, greenlight bundles, repeat bundles, etc. There's an overwhelming amount of uninteresting bundles coming out recently and that's why so many people say meh.

1 decade ago
Permalink

But the premier bundles don't seem that interesting anymore either. There are just too many bundles around now. I think we're going to have a crash sooner or later.

1 decade ago
Permalink

There's not going to be a 'crash', the whole bundle business will just have to slow down a bit - too much too fast is not good for any business.

It has some worth. It's a good barometer.

With greater and greater numbers of bundles, the risk of bundle fatigue increases. You can view the number of "mehs" as a change in the barometer. The greater numbers of them there are, the stronger the bundle fatigue is. And if the fatigue grows too great, the bundle system collapses under its own weight of meh.
