Hi, I am pretty new to this site and I noticed that for a few of the giveaways I created the game never appeared in the winners game list (in one case the steam gift was sitting in his inventory for a few days).

Now I am curious: Is there any plausible reason that could happen unless they traded it away and can the owned games list on the steam profile be trusted to be complete ?

I´d apreciate your informed answers because I like the idea of this site but don´t want to donate trading material.

If they don't activate the game in a certain period of time, they'll get banned temporaly.

Why not permanently? It's not like it's not written in the rules, and it's common sense after all...

Seems like mods and admins of SG are afraid to ban people permanently. I understand that many things simply don't call for permanent ban but this one does.

It is a shame. One winner of one of my giveaways didn't activate 3 out of his 6 won games here :l A temporarily ban doesn't do much in those cases

Becoz if you BAN a Person. they Come Back from using FREE Steam Keys that Equate to $100. SIMPLE. Nothing Wrong with Trading Away a Game. Some people seem to have SUCH AN Obsession with Trading ANYTHING. ummmmmmmmm...... for example if a Winner wins the game THEY REALLY Want they should just TAKE IT FROM the person who made the Giboway by Mans of TRADE OFFER.

Why? SIMPLY Becoz People END UP Making their GIBOWAYZ END early in the morning of their TIME ZONE & the other person on planet is WAITING FOR IT. So? if you see a TRADE OFFER Login 2 ur SteamGifts and CHECK THE Winner and then accept the Trade offer. :D

Trading away a game you won is against the site's rules. Which call for a ban. It's as simple as that.

I think first offense shouldn't be banned permanently, it may indicate they didn't know/read the rules. There are some giveaway sites allowing regifting.

That's pretty arbitrary, they once banned me for "not activating" (which I did) a year after the giveaway. I guess there's no automation in place or it's super slow.

something's wrong with that rule though. some people win games their pc cant run.
"now why not make a rule that prevents people from joining giveaways they cant run?"
-well that would be very tough to monitor. unless you can somehow detect the user's pc specs and script something that prevents them from joining giveaways over their specs.

You must redeem the game on the account you entered with, and may not trade it to others.

Sometimes the game may not show up immediately, so I wouldn't say Steam is to be completely trusted.
If they haven't activated it for a while, or it doesn't appear, you could try messaging to see if they have and provide a screenshot.

If you gifted it to them you should be able to see if it's activated from your inventory.

Yea I know that it is not allowed that is why I was asking.

So if the game doesn´t appear in their owned games list after 7 days (both were shown as redeemed in my steam gift history - even before a week passed - but didn´t show up in the owned games list) then there is no other possible scenario how that could happen ?

I wanted to be sure on that before I take any actions.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I think that there were few games, that don't appear on owned games list, but those were like betas or something. So yeah, report it, and let support handle it.
In meantime, try making group giveaways, or ones with CV.

A Game of Dwarves and Serious Sam HD The Second Encounter don't appear in your owned game list. Not sure if there are more.

They could be using a dummy account (which I'm guessing is against the rules) and have activated it on their main account.

They could have given it to someone else. For example if someone won a giveaway and then realized that the game is on their best friend's wishlist.

Also, DLCs seem to only show up in the list if they were activated individually, not as part of a collection.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Actually the "I don´t like (insert genre here) but my best friend does"-scenario was the reason I didn´t instantly react but after the same thing happened with my next giveaway (and a possible 3rd candidate who put it in his inventory instead of activating it [out of 6 giveaways]) I got a little annoyed.

after i give a winner his game, i always wait 10 mins, and if he hasnt activated it. i ask him to do it now so that i have proof he did so. ive never had anyone refuse, specially after i recite the sites rules about it.

or if they have a reasonable excuse i ignore it but i come back after 7 days passes and make sure its been done

Both show as "redeemed" in my steam gift history (although 1 of them was apperently added to the inventory rather than activated) after a few days that one was gone from inventory although I can´t find it on his game list.

There is nothing automated, you'd need to manually keep track of it - a lot of folks use a service like pastebin. It only applies to private giveaways (inc group, with the owners consent) - public giveaways are open to all.

site does not automatically ban, because there are few games that do not show in your inventory even if you activate them - and site would be automatically banning users who did nothing wrong. On the other hand if you report (you should do so!) a person who didn't activate your win he will surely get suspended (unless he got suspended for not activationg this particular game before anyway).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There's a few more problems with that, if a game is revoked (credit card issues or whatever) after it comes into your possession, you'd be banned for not having it. As far as I know, it's the mods (and people reporting people guilty of it) that do all of the work related to that.

[Solved: The problem was I tried to download the old SteamGift Plus addon by Kaylee which is outdated and leads to a dead end]

Apparently the report I filed on the first guy won´t work because I don´t have the SteamGifts Plus Addon.

I use MS Internet Explorer for this site (which is not compatible with said addon) because my normal browser Firefox forces me to add a new browser / computer whenever I try to logg in to the steam website.

So I downloaded Google Chrome but I can´t figure out for my life how to download and install that addon (the link in the sticky thread takes me to a dead end).

http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/u2zKI/steamgifts-plus-filtering-ignoring-tagging-better-editor-new-comment-highlighting-more

Any ideas what would be the easiest solution ? I´d submit a support ticket for this single case but since I might already have a second candidate waiting I´m not sure if that´s the right thing.

If I would have known that this would turn into so much work I might have let the bastard get away with it.

Permalink

I'd create a support ticket.

I wouldn't advise actually doing it, but you can probably import the cookies from internet explorer (which are stored in .txt files) into firefox (which stores them in a database).

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Just create a support ticket, it's the same thing. Don't forget to designate the user and provide proof of whatever you're reporting him for. In this case, just a link towards the library of the user will do (although the mods can check by themselves, it might save them a few precious seconds)

edit : oops, I didn't see that you had solved your problem :-/

Oh yea and by the way since 3 of my 8 giveaways might have gone to (re)traders: Is there maybe any chance that somebody from a nice, relaxed (!) giveaway group is reading this and would consider putting in a good word for me ? My CV is only at 42 € right now but if invited I plan to be rather active both on forum as well as creating group giveaways plus I´d say I´m a semi-decent human beeing. :D

I´d rather gift my games to someone who actually enjoys them.

When I click support I now see the report I filed and it seem I´ll get feedback once it has been reviewed.

I hope one of the other 2 candidates turns out to yet activate it to his own account but if not I´ll report them as well.

Stupid rule. If I'd received the game, that's my game now, not the original holder's. No one should give a damn what I'm gonna do with it: activate, gift to a friend, keep in the inventory, sell, give away - it's my deal, not yours anymore.

Feel free to report me for this opinion.

ACTUALLY, i've been banned by the mods here for a while for having an opinion that i thought a rule was stupid, so yes, you CAN get banned here for opinions about rules (even if you dont break them or tell others to break them) - so yes, what he said could technically get him a ban like it did me.

Actually you are wrong. That would be the case in another gifting wesite. Here this rule exists for a reason. If you could just re-gift everything back then you would join everything and focus on most wanted games even if you do not want them for your self. But by applying this rule, you are join giveaways only of the games you want/need. This gives everybody a better chance to win their game ( even you ) by not letting anyone join everything.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Nobody is gonna report you for having an opinion. If on the other hand you were to win one of my giveaways and tried to trade the game you won away for TF2 Items I would without second thought.

It might not be the perfect analogy but look at it like taxes: I don´t have to agree on what they are spent on to be forced to pay them. When we joined this group we all agreed to a set of rules.

But if you personly don´t mind donating trading materials, I am an avid trader: You can donate as much stuff to me as you like (we should probably just rather do it as a trade on steam not here as a giveaway) for trading and I will even say thank you (which from the 50 % resellers that won my giveaways not 1 did).

A gift, is exactly that. its not a sale, not a commodity, its someone giving something nice to another person out of generosity... to immediately take that 'gift', dismiss the gifter, and consider it yours to profit from is... well.. its kinda a dirtbag shitty thing to do, and thats the issue i think.
