Dissection is probably my favorite band, kind of in between death metal and black metal. They only put out three albums over about 15 years but I can just go back and listen to them again and again.
I also don't wanna lecture you or anything but even country music has some great artists. Johnny Cash is probably one of my other favorite musicians and he couldn't be more different than most of the stuff I listen to. You should give it a chance sometime :P (though I would agree that modern country is pretty trash almost 100% of the time...)

I'm surprised I'd never really thought to actually listen to Johnny Cash's music before, he's basically a household name. Hurt is such a good song!!
Hmm, I haven't listened to heavy metal in a while, but I think Dethklok was a good band, they might have been death metal though, not sure.
A game called Brutal Legend has a really good selection of various metals, maybe see if you can find a playlist for it and see if you like any of the songs!
I'd also suggest checking out some of the other recommendations in the comments, they're pretty good!
I really love "Ujico*/Snail's House" and "Outgoing Hikikomori"
they both made future bass type of music (cmiiw) and I really love their work~
