Description

The group puzzle it is tehn. It's going to be pretty crowded here soon, so I'm introducing an entry fee.
Tell me which snippet you liked (or hated) the most OR tell me which game soundtrack albums you consider to be the best.

Also, why not try my other puzzle?

Thank you! I instantly recognized the Deus Ex music. I like Michael "Behavior" McCann's works (Deus Ex HR, Splinter Cell Double Agent) also the soundtracks of Trine 1 and 2 composed by Ari Pulkkinen. Crysis 2 and Modern Warfare 2 soundtracks were good too, probably because of Hans Zimmer. Oh, and Mirror's Edge.

Congrats on getting here first! :) I guess you came the closest to solving this solo.

First entry goes to me, I guess. Cool puzzle. I'm sad it took anyone so long to identify #7 (I'm a huge Sam and Max fan and caught it straight away)

Thank you, thank you! That's where I heard it then. Hell, it's been so long.

Now I can finally get some sleep. )

Thanks! Won't be entering as I only got 2 answers and generally I'm terrible at identifying any kind of music. Really liked #9 though. What game is it from?

Discworld Noir. Can't find anything on youtube, so here's grooveshark. The track is called "Lewton's Office".

Ah, no wonder I liked it. One of the most precious games in my collection. Shame getting some of those old gems running under Win7 is such a nuisance.

Thank you so much for this quiz! It was hard, but very enjoyable! And I get to know new amazing music <3 So big hug for you :D
My favourite ost, as someone could see in topic, is of course the one from Planescape: Torment <3 It's perfect while you playing this amazing game, but even better when you listen too it with closed eyes <3

I used the walkthrough for the most :). Among those I know Neverhood is best --> Terry Scott Taylor.

Thanks for making this group puzzle. These questions were really hard.

Cheers for the puzzle!

I feel a bit like a cheater for having got Discworld Noir without ever playing it: I just heard the sax, thought of the noir-themed games I know, and remembered that there was no music like it in Grim Fandango. )

Grim Fandango was Q15. :) I just couldn't make a soundtrack quiz and not include it.

Well, that evens things out then. I still blame the saxes. )

Somehow I knew Terry Scott Taylor would make it onto the list (point-and-clickies, yay!), but for some reason I expected the 'Bonus Room' song from Skullmonkeys to show up.

Thank you very much Fet, and everyone else for sharing their answers!

The Bastion clip was my favorite. Partially because I really love the soundtrack, and partially because in the midst of a whole bunch of really baffling (for me) clips, that one jumped right out at me and was easy to solve. :) Other soundtracks I've really enjoyed lately: Jamestown, Superbrothers: Sword and Sworcery (even if I disliked the game), and Mass Effect 2.

I wanted to include Conquistador! Conquistador! from Jamestown as one of the questions, but opted not to at the last minute. There were too many tracks with epic-sounding choirs already.

Thank you, Fet.
I am indifferent to music in general and with music puzzles I am starting to hate it in all forms, game soundtracks or not.

As far as the good soundtracks go, I've always liked the Batman and Robin one from the Mega Drive (the one by Jesper Kyd). Even though I'm not into that kind of pumping music.

Also the obscure Myst clone, 'Lost Eden', had quite a few gems in it. Kudos to Stéphane Picq.

I found eight of them myself. Number 7 was making me think it was Stacking, since it had that old-timey piano feel to it, but after listening some more it didn't quite fit with that game. Now that I know the answer, I must have heard it in one of the Sam & Max episodes. I was thinking maybe 'Tomb of Sammun-Mak', but apparently not. Seasons 1 or 2?

And 6 must have been Fallout: New Vegas. Not sure how I managed to miss that.

Season 2. And Q6 is Planescape: Torment.

Wow, gosh. I really ought to go back through that game's music.

Got 2, 4, 8, 11, 13 myself. But the best one for me is Q5, I tried hard but couldn't find the source.
Thanks Fet, those soundtracks are my favorite types, I'll check the whole albums I never heard before.

Talking about game soundtracks I like, here you are: 1 2 3
Anime soundtracks: 1 2

I found some myself, but the I'm proud of finding Terry Scott Taylor. This song reminded me of Neverhood,so I gave it a try and it worked! Also I'm lucky, cause I'm playing Sam & Max right now,so #7 was easy. For some reason I thought the first one was from Wild Arms.Great, but a bit hard puzzle!

Thank you for the quiz and giveaway Fet, I really liked the Terry Scott Taylor one, and generally like Robin Beanlands work as well.
As for other soundtracks, lately I've been listening a lot to Ari Pulkkinens Trine 1 and 2 soundtracks, and of course Jim Guthries Sword and Sworcery EP, those are addictive.

Forgot about this puzzle for a bit, due to graduate school orientation and such. I got here on the shoulders of others, so thank you everyone who solved the quiz.
Have the game, and it's really great.

I like the classic OSTs like Chrono Trigger, Cross, and Final Fantasy VI

Thank you for this very interesting puzzle! I must admit that I only recognized very few tracks myself though...
As of my favourite snippet from the puzzle, it's probably the intro music of Deus Ex. I also very much like Jesper Kyd's work on the Hitman series, as well as Final Fantasy's or Commandos 2's soundtracks from the top of my head.
Mafia's soundtrack is also awesome of course, but not really something I would listen to outside the game though.

I kinda hate "cheating" to get in here, with it being a group puzzle, but... excellent giveaway that's too tempting to not jump in on!
Thank you everyone for the assists, and Fet for the giveaway itself, of course!
An idea for next time to keep it a group puzzle, but still with some challenge: make two ItsTooHards, one with the composers as the answers, and one with the games as the answers. If people can't solve the composers, open that up for the group, but keep the game part a solo solve.

Favorite game soundtracks? I think you nailed most of the best ones... Grim Fandango (how did so many people have trouble with this one! Peter McConnel has such a signature style! :D), Deus Ex, and Outlaws. Glad you included The Neverhood (I have the actual soundtrack CD!) and Bastion too (one of the best in recent times).
There's also some really crazy tracks in Beyond Good & Evil that would've been great for the puzzle.
Total Annihilation has a nice classical score. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night has some very beautiful tracks (I'm partial to Dance of Pales). And the original Halo has an amazing soundtrack. I'm tempted to say Super Meat Boy as well, just because of how dang catchy and well-retro'd it is.

Lots of good stuff out there.
