Description

You call the number on the poster and a robotic voice asks: "Password" and you reply with the solution to the puzzle. A long string of 0s and 1s come flowing out of the speaker. Good thing you have an eidetic memory. You walk over to a nearby cafe, order a coffee and write down the string on a napkin.

Hint 1

A waitress comes up to the table. "You've been sitting here for quite a while now, can I get you another cup of coffee? Perhaps some breakfast? Our special today is spam, eggs, sausage, bacon and spam.".
She looks down on your napkin. "Oh, is that a puzzle? I love puzzles. Keeps the old brain alive. Mama always told me, knowledge is powe..." She stops, turns around, and yells. "Yes sir, I'll be right with you!" She turns back and smiles. "Duty calls", she says and walks away.

I think I might be here a while... Yeah, I made sure I was 100% right about the code before entering it. :P My first code started with "J" and I was getting a few problems, so I started all over again.

There are actually online solvers for that kind of puzzle. It's simply called Binary Puzzle. I hope people don't realize. =)

Also, at least you have coffee here and a table at the café, so you can procrastinate however long you want. ^^

I think, if you solve it normally it shouldn't complete all 3 rows until you're as good as done. I solved it manually and then double checked it with an autosolver to make sure I had no errors. :)

I'd say this is a hard puzzle. Trying to increase the difficulty for each puzzle, starting with easy for the reflective note, medium for the binary puzzle. But you're at least 60% done. There are 5 puzzles total including group puzzle.

From the text, I found out an English scientist and his cipher, but using that ciphering method still makes no sense :(

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Perhaps you need to research more. :) To clarify, if the cipher you have can be applied to several hints, I don't think you have to worry about having the right one or not, you probably just need to figure out something else.

But am I on the right dish? @@?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't know about this. I think I got something but with the further deciphering, I am not sure anymore. And yes, I have read the hints. 8 letters will be nonsense. But in my result, more letters are nonsense. I just get two words right in the beginning.
codends Am I on the right track or is this a sign of being paranoid?

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

From a hint. Highlighted a special word. Double meaning. ;)
"You know you're on the right track if you find a code (this last part will only mean something if you've already deciphered it correctly, but perhaps don't understand the result)."

Some help, look at the group puzzle, it might give you a clue on what to do with the result. Something similar is happening here.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Hm... sorry, I might have given you the wrong impression. Adding you on steam.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ok, so I've cleared it up. Appearently you can get "code" at the start when using morse on the binary, something which is very peculiar, because the message you're looking for begins with "code".

The cipher being used is however NOT morse code.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The proper hints are all in the description up top. Including what the waitress is saying. There are a few direct answers to questions spread out a bit here and there, but nothing that's too important.

Also note that I've divided the 01's into two rows now to make it clear what's a hint and what's the other bit. The hint, I'm guessing, you've probably already deciphered, but now it's a lot more clear what is what.

Permalink

Ok now it's clear for me that i wasted time searching in comments :D I see some light now i'll try to follow it :D

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Check the group puzzle solution, perhaps that can give you an idea on why there are more than 8 characters. In the group puzzle there's 18 letters to make an 8 character code.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Thanks for all the hints, they are very helpful. Unfortunately, I have not been able to figure out how to extract the final code from the decrypted text. I have a 12-letter string that does not seem to make much sense, and checking the group part does not help because the problem here appears to be different. I feel so stupid, haha.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The final string is 16 characters long and starts with "CODE". If you end up with CPDE at the start, you're not unique enough.

The hint about the group puzzle is how you read the string after it's been deciphered. With 12 letters (once CODE is removed) for an 8 letter code, perhaps you understand why there are extra letters.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I have "CODE", I am extremely unique - or at least that's what my partner says. ;) It seems I am on the right track about the 12-letter string, now I just need to figure out how to use those extra letters.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Make sure it's not via Morse you got them. :P

Also, just like this has 12 characters to get the 8 character code, the group puzzle had 18 characters to get the 8 character code.
