Hah, I would not only recommend the game but anime too. Higurashi is one of those animes that I would have on my list things to watch if I've ever had memory loss and had to screw my mind in the right way once again. And I'm not even into animes anymore.
It's probably the creepiest experience you'd never expect it to be. Alternatively, if you like the sound of cicadas you should play it :D
Although I must say that game seems to me too slow paced, but's it's possibly because I know the story for the major part, so nothing surprises me.

I'm still trying to figure out where Hou came from, I've checked all japanese meanings of hou, but it didn't make me any wiser :|
