In my opinion, in ways yes, in ways no. Yes, because I haven't felt dependent on those things because I haven't felt the NEED to be dependent on those things, mainly because games do ease that "need" for those dependencies. I also say no because in some games they flat out, or subliminally make you feel those dependencies while playing the game, and in some cases that need requires real money which in turn makes you hate that you didn't pursue the dependency of wealth and/or power. It's in ways a double edged sword.

as with any hobby has the potential to be video games have helped bond me with members of my family. some of my fondest memories involve playing them with my dad as a kid, and now as a dad with my kids. though i would say it more the intentions and the use of them rather than the things themselves.
