It's an estimate and works in real time when it refreshes from time to time. When I did my even rougher estimates, I still came up pretty close. Time's subjective, but it isn't materially against your advantage at all. It has no bearing. What matters is when you get your window and you claim it in time, regardless of what slot you're in. You either get to claim it or you don't.

I had a number in the 8K range too last time. I got my key as well. That does come to some luck - a LOT of luck. You just simply have to wait and see. If you're slotted below their number of keys, obviously you'd have to be guaranteed. No question. At least it isn't because it gets botted out of the system.

This was actually my first time trying to get a key. I really like Metroidvanias, so I was like "okay, I'll give this a shot." =)
I see on their forum there they were really making an effort to stop the bots stealing everything.

I only have to wait at least an hour. It's not taken "in a flash" at all. You can even still get a key even if your slot is > key pool. It's not botted at all. Otherwise, they have keys if you earn the points on Twitch.

There was no defined amount of keys nor (explicit) limit, yet entered in like 13k in line, then it was over, no keys for me again.
At one point you gotta stop wasting time with these guys, and with the killing of vpn for uncalled/unneeded restrictions in fanatical, freebies are mostly dead.

There was "5000 keys" among instruction/waiting screen also this time the amount of remaining keys refreshed about every 10 mintues, this time.

The page clearly stated there were only 5k keys. 50 minutes into it, there were 2400 keys left. Your slot is RNG. You can still make it if your slot is past the 5,000th place. Most places don't even give the grace of informing how many keys there are even if there are certain tier restrictions. They're worse as first come-first serve.
I know this for a fact because this is the same case from the last time this giveaway was run, being well past the 6,000th position. I was there for this one with the same rules. Both cases, I got my keys. You are not being purposely disadvantaged nor excluded from being informed.

Because I was there? Sitting on the page watching it refresh itself on my computer through my phone and there was a ticker on the bottom that updated the remaining keys with a time stamp. Not that it essentially mattered because I was already placed in the front of the queue this time, otherwise it would've been a gamble like last time. It was nicely educational, and helps kind of figure out by hand for fun as to when/what would be the most likely scenario to get my key.

The issues with the places is that not everyone in their places will get in time or remember to claim, it has around 10 min time when it gets your turn to do the redeem, if you fail that time, then your turn is skipped.
So basically people who was waiting for their turn and went to do other things or couldn't check, they lost their turn, and that's why usually if you get over 5000th place, at least you can still get chance for another 1k~1.5k (6000th~6500th) to still have chance to get a key.
At least future ones the key amount will be raised to 10k instead of 5k. So probably the threshold can reach around 11k~12k and still able to get a key.

I already know all that. It seems that others aren't even seeing/reading the info on the page. And they might've been queued too far off and then think they could complain. Only odds, not bots, are stacked against them.

I'm sorry, I misread the part where it said there's no time limit as if there were no limited number of keys, but I still don't see where it said there were only 5k keys..
I entered, it said 13k I think, then had to walk my dog and by the time I checked it was over. At least they should leave it in mailbox IF you made the cut. they have captcha to stop bots so....

It's hard to miss the info on the giveaway. It's all on the same queue page, which refreshes the info over time. It's not overwhelming. The nature of the giveaway system already works against the pesky autoclickers anyway.
The page is laid out as follows:
Info about the giveaway system (It says you have 10 minutes to claim, which by then when it's your turn, the page will completely refresh and take you to the page to begin claiming)
Progress bar
Info about the queue and queue times (This is where I get my rough math from, but the thing does that for you anyway so you have to monitor that)
And below all that, Info about the giveaway (# of keys, how many keys left, any other related announcements, etc.)
It would be useless to use email given several factors. You've got a generous 10 minutes grace period and have to stay on the page since it'll refresh automatically into a different page once it's your turn. You either have waited too long to miss that window, or that you were queued too far out anyway. It's not really "drop in and forget".
If you're at 13k, fat chance. You weren't ever going to likely get a key. You'd have to look elsewhere (they also have a system where you just use Twitch points, and that was before this giveaway started)
