It's SEGA time! Will you get these games?

Yes. I'll pick and mix some games!
Nah. Pass
Meh. Idk
Well I have most or all of these games
Many people say that Sonic 3’s music sounds a lot like Michael Jackson’s music. This is because SEGA actually did ask the king of pop to record some tracks for the game.

I'll pass. I'd rather stick to my roms

Those 4 games are the only ones that aren't available on Steam in my country (Germany) because they were forbidden back when they came out and still are. I guess that's why Bundle Stars didn't bother to add them.. which is sad becaue I already own every other Sega game and only those are missing.

It was released the same day Sega launched the new emulator in late April i think. before that there were those 5 collections and 8 "lonely" games . I know how you feel, it was a pain to make the game list in my FAQ, which was my main motivation when starting the FAQ.

There's either RaChart's Enchancer (script that works with Rachel's threads) , or you could make an account with barter.vg and you can see what you own in the middle column here https://barter.vg/bundle/1141/ Forgot it doesn't apply for some dlc like in this case

Comment has been collapsed.

Thanks, but I am already using it, and it works flawlessly most of the time.

In this case, (I think because the games are launched from another app), none are showing as highlighted except for Sonic CD. I have all the Golden Axe games for example (love those when I was a kid), but all are showing unowned here until I go to the Steam page.

Permalink

I think it's because the games (except for Sonic CD) are all actually DLCs as far as Steam is concerned, not games in your library.

Right, so my question is, is there an easy way to tell which I have? Sounds like no?

Permalink

Sounds like a no. Either open each one up or type into your game library. Luckily a lot have the same base; "Sonic" "Shinobi" "Shining", etc it can go a little faster.

Permalink

Well, I went through every one on steam. It wasn't that bad after all. (Turns out I already own all of them). Thanks for your help!

If you open up the Genesis & Mega Drive classics in your Steam client and look at the DLC list, that should show the ones that you already own.

Not quite, unfortunately. Steam reports I own Golden Axe, but it's not listed in the DLC? O.o

Anyway, I manually checked them all, but thanks for your help!

Weird. It's certainly a confusing mess the way they handled these games, plus all of the different packs etc.

I made a list of the games that you can only get outside of a classics pack. if you have all 5 of the classics packs then those are the 9 you should pick up to complete your collection of games.

I had or played all of these games in the olden days :)

For RPG fans, here are the RPGs:

Beyond Oasis
Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole
Light Crusader
Phantasy Star II
Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom
Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium
Shining Force
Shining Force II
Shining in the Darkness
Sword of Vermilion

And if I could only choose 5 of those to play first I'd probably choose the three Phantasy Star games, Landstalker and Sword of Vermillion

:)

Phantasy Star III isn't that great. (Whereas Phantasy Star IV is easily the best Genesis RPG.)

I'd also strongly recommend Beyond Oasis to anyone who likes action-RPGs. The Arabian Nights-style setting is also a bit of a nice change from generic knights-and-dragons fantasyland.

So, for someone who has few of these, was the better deal the Summer sale or this?

It looks like each pack was only $1.87 during the sale, which seems like a better deal if you add the cost of them up versus getting multiple 20-game bundles here, but I'm not sure.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

There probably was a better price at some point, but you have to consider that those packs are pre-selected, so if you wanted Phantasy Star and, I don't know, Alex Kidd you had to purchase two packs and get games you might not even want. I only wanted some Sonic games for the nostalgia, had the 10% voucher from Indie Legends #4 and am happy with what I got for my money. :)

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Well, you can get practically all of the Sega Classics for about $15 with 5 extra games to give away. That is a big difference between the cost of the 'complete and total' deal of $62. You would just be out the 4 games that are not available in this bundle deal.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Right, but the complete deal was around $15 during the Summer sale (and probably will be again during the Winter sale), so it seems about even. This is probably better, because I won't lose any money from duplicate games.

The Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics is an emulator. It has 58 DLC (=games) . Sonic CD is not a DLC, it is a standalone game in your steam library. In fact it is not even a port from the original Sonic CD from the Mega CD, the steam version is a completely recoded new game, done by some Indy dude, compatible with modern PCs. The Sega Classics collection (the emulator) consists of 58 games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Ahh didn't know they were steam DLC as says they are steam games in the steam store so yeah 58 of them a dlc that come under Sega Mega Drive & Genesis Classics but if you buy the collection on steam you are still getting 59 games, 58 that run as DLC +1 separate game Sonic CD :P

You should check amazon.com they have these collections up on sale every now and then for even cheaper
than this bundle (selling steam keys) if I'm not mistaken. I have also seen the complete thing on the indiegala store at some sale for like 15 bucks or so (similar to summer sale?). And still, this bundle is pretty neat and especially great if you miss just a bunch of games.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Unfortunately, both the 48-game and 50-game collections that were on super-sale at Amazon about a year ago are no longer available, so unless they bring them back, that deal is done. Maybe you can point to something else that I've missed? They still have CD-ROMs, but I'm looking for the Steam collections.
