Hello Steamgifters! It is that time again - adventure time! Join a great adventure with a large amount of treasures!

All of us like playing games, and all of us like winning games. So, how about playing a game and winning games while playing?

  • Introduction

Game of sWords is a text RPG Adventure where you can explore dungeons, upgrade your hero, find useful items, weapons and artifacts, avoid deadly traps, fight dangerous monsters and interact with other players while searching for treasures (private SteamGifts giveaways links) on your way and trying to complete a quest to get access to a huge amount of private giveaways! Each quest has a limited number of winners split between 3 available classes - Barbarian, Wizard and Thief, so the chances in each giveaway will always be great.

All giveaways have no restrictions, so anyone who finds them can join them!

A lot of giveaways have been contributed by the community members, and I would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who made a contribution! :)

Here is the topic of the previous Game of sWords.

Here is the topic of the second Game of sWords.

And here is the topic of the first one, which started back in November last year.

  • Important notes about the Game

You hero has Energy Points and Health Points.
Most of the actions require Energy Points. Energy can be replenished using items which you can find everywhere, thus it is important to check everything around you!

Energy also replenishes over time and that time can be reduced with special artifacts that can be found during the adventure.
Note, that the Energy won't be replenishing during the battles (you can only restore it with potions)!

If you lose all your Health Points, you will also lose all the Energy you had plus you will have to wait for a few hours to be resurrected. Energy can not be replenished while you are dead!

Note: If you have problems navigating through the map, you can switch to Simplified Navigation at the bottom right corner.

I highly recommend to visit sWords Library that has a lot of other useful information that will help you in the adventure

  • What's new in Game of sWords?

It's been more than half a year since the previous Game, and, obviously, it has a lot of changes and improvements! Adventures this time will get even bigger, with more variety in everything: items, monsters, traps, weapons, artifacts, interaction, you name it!

The Game now has sounds which can be activated by clicking a Note symbol at the bottom right corner and a Chat window which can be used to communicate with other adventurers and see what is happening around you!

You can also trade with other adventurers through the Chat using following command: /trade amount item(s) you have for amount item(s) you want

E.g.
/trade 5 small healing potions for 3 small energy potions
/trade 5 acceleration scrolls for 100 coins

The Game also has a new design a a new engine which makes all kinds of interactions happen in real time.
Note: The Game engine is not properly supported by Internet Explorer (you will encounter all kinds of nasty bugs there) and it is recommended to use one of the following browsers: Chrome (perfect), Opera (perfect) or Firefox (great, but the game works a tiny bit slower and sounds sometimes mess up a little).

Current Winners limits: Barbarians:10, Mages:10, Thieves:10.

Winners get access to all giveaways available in the Game! (50+)

Everyone who finishes the Game after the limit is reached (while it is still runnning) gets 1 random treasure as a consolation prize!

All giveaways end in about a week! The Game will last for a week.

  • Time to start the Adventure!

EVERYONE is invited to play the Game and search for treasures in the adventure! :)

The only requirement is that your Steam account should be more than 90 days old.

Great work, love it! The game has come a long way since the beginning, feels very polished and complete. Can't believe you created all that alone! 10/10 would play again.

I have just run into a beholder who instantly disorients you, and I had to use all of my energy potions just to get away from him, because I kept going back to him and getting disoriented again and again. So I finally got away, I think I made well over 30 action (steps, checks, fighting monsters) and I am still disoriented, does disorientation stacks? I've spent probably around 2,5k energy in total. I wasn't sure if I would be able to win the game in time... now I definitely won't.

I did complete the game, so here a few tips for you:

  • If you want to pass the Beholder, use Invisibility scroll, he can't see you that way.
  • Upgrade your Disorientation resistance, it shorten disorient status, and remember: you Never go to the direction you click, use that for your strategy.
  • Disorientation: -1 duration per level. Starting duration: 11 moves.

Thanks, but it's too late for all of this. And I don't have enough Wizardry to use the scroll.

Sorry to hear that, wish I could help you sooner. I think the requirement for that scroll is not too high, I'm a thief and still can use it. And don't worry, you can complete the game without pass those Beholders.

Yeah, but there is only 29 hours left, I doubt I will be able to do it in time.

I should make a note for myself for the next game: put points in wizardry first! :)

Comment has been collapsed.

Oh dear, I didn't know that. Yeah, you're right, I put 1 point for wizardry after each character level up since some scrolls are quite helpful. But I wish I choose Mage at first, so easily using scrolls, and this class is badass this time. SErVER51 said he will make the new game very soon, so see ya :D

If you're a mage then definitely, if not, it also helps for magic defense.
Dying will erase every disorientation as well, since it does/did stack.

Okay, I'm stuck. There is a big door I can't pick, 2 beholders and a teleport trap that block me from getting to unexplored area. I have absolutely no clue how to get past this :S
And there is a Devil and Orc, but none of those wants to talk to me. Devil even threatened to take my soul - joke is on him, someone already took it .-.

And they can sell it to him, so better beware...

Might be there is a secret passage trap that lets you get to new area.
If you killed the 3 minotaurs you can go back up.

Also bug reports:

  • Another weapon seems to regenerate EP before the hit, not after - Morning Star of Energy.
  • You can regenerate to full energy with Money Energy even if you don't have enough coins - you get negative coins then for a while, going back to 0 when refreshed.
  • Also using Money Energy doesn't refresh the game as it is done when using potions - you have to do it manually.

Not sure if a bug, but you can't recover arrows fired with Rapid Shot, making the skill pretty useless.

Thank you for the bug reports, YoSoyPinguino!
I have checked the weapon you mentioned - it regenerates EP after a hit. Everything else you mentioned has been fixed.

No problem, I'm not gonna win anymore anyway, so at least I can make it mean something :P

That's strange - not once I was left with 0 EP even though it was written that I regenerated 5 EP

Does the disorientation stack? I have moved around a lot and it didn't faded. I had 4+3 points so it should have stopped after 4 moves. But earlier I run into the beholder a few times because it was hard to move far away when I didn't know what to click and checking the walls doesn't count towards the moves. I think it should, by the way...

EDIT: I have wasted a lot of energy as well as Invisibility Scrolls because the effect didn't faded when it should. I'm still disoriented and not sure what to do. I have made over 11 steps (can't say how many, I didn't count them from the beginning) and I'm still disoriented.

It's just a constructive criticism of course :) I love the game and that's why i want to finish it so badly :D

Hey Lalwende!
Disorientation didn't apply repeatedly while checking the walls, but of course I forgot about the Beholder (I often do things in a hurry due to lack of time :( ) - he could disorient you continuously, making the effect last for long time. I'm sorry! I fixed it and see that you are fine now.
I start to hate disorientation myself after seeing how much indignation it causes. Maybe I will just remove it and it will be the best solution to get rid of all frustration.
When you are disoriented, remember that you will move in any direction besides to one you choose - so, if you want to go West, chose to go East, and you will have a chance to actually go West.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

Yes, so the best way not to go to the beholder was to go into that direction... but that click was often a check on the wall and another direction I have chosen ended up in the beholder room... again :D

Don't make the game too easy please ;). Having to overcome a few of these random / incidental events made the eventual victory taste that much sweeter.

I have encountered several bugs, I still can't use a scroll despite my blindness being removed after several steps, and i still got disorientation from being revived by a wizard

After being able to read again and i had a small enough amount of hp to die from bleeding, i used a regeneration scroll, i moved a step, didn't die, but it still gave the message that i died in chat

Just a question about the effects, because I'm not sure:

Duration: 11 moves.

Does it actually mean moves or checking counts as well? I think in case of poison or bleed it should count for checks as well, because they tick at those as well.

Duration of each negative effect (except bleeding) decreases with each step or check.

What about a maybe mean but logical rule for upcoming quests, where a person can participate in a quest and find treasures but can't win it if they won the previous quest, just to give a chance for others to win especially considering the low number of winners allowed per faction/type of character.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I don't like such idea :( I might increase the number of winners to 20/25 in future quests though.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That would be not bad as well.
Just a bit more clarification about my suggestion: the effect would last only for the next quest, for example: somebody won a quest, they won't be able to win the next one but can win the one after it.

Finished a few hours ago. It was hard on beginning and easy at the end (had tons of unused scrolls and other stuff).

Was it intentional that drop rates for weapons are like: 80% melee, 10% ranged, 10% magical (I was mage)?

Moral is a good thing, but it was screwed by barbarians: most of time I had terrible morale, because when I just improved it a bit I was immediately demoralized by somebody. Considering several levels of morale, demoralize should lower it a bit, but not drop from brilliant to terrible instantly.

I suggest to add level requirement to the scrolls' description in shop to not waste coins on scrolls, which you can't use.

For trading purposes a list of items would be useful somewhere in the faq.

It seems I managed to finished the quest just in time before it finished, It was great as usual, but unfortunately it caught me in the middle of a relocation process, so I could not devote as much time to ite as I would have wanted. Looking forward to the next one! :)

Prax, I did not have such a problem with barbarians - actually I only remember being demoralized once. Thieves were a bit more annoying though, as they repeatedly stole coins from me. And of course mages (I was one myself) with their revival always at the worst possible time.

I completed the game but had no idea where I manage to get the heart. I was frantically looking around the area past the golden door and the drop area but all i triggered was trap and there was no boss monster like the dragon from the previous game. I move very fast in that area so i did not read the log. Previously before I even go past the golden door, i tried using some skills but was denied the chance as it says that I had the heart which i did not understand(did not remember that I have to find the heart) so i ignored it. After searching the areas a few time i looked into my treasure and saw the heart which I have no idea when i manage to get it. I was so confused and was wondering if the heart was located elsewhere or I could have traded the scalp for it or pick it up somewhere. I was hoping for a boss monster so was kinda disappointed in the end as i save lot of scrolls and potion for the big fight which didnt arrive. Scrolls is too OP in this game that i turned my barbarian into a wizard.

Thanks for the comment, Azsassinz!
The Heart was in the room beyond golden door (you found it by checking the altar by the wall on the east). There was a small bug that prevented from using abilities with a message that you have a heart when you actually don't, but I fixed it quite quickly. Looks like you played at the moment it appeared, sorry for the inconvenience.
The minotaurs in the labyrinth can be considered the "bosses" of this game, though dungeons won't necessarily have an overlord (boss) - the mission is just to find the Heart of the Dungeon and bring to sWords.

i put 3 levels worth wizardy points in my barbarian too, scrolls were really OP :P
also where did you find the scalp? I literally have checked every single wall on every floor as well as up- and downstairs but I never found it :| even had a necklace with luck attribute which gave me tons of items like bandages, antidotes and potions (mainly medium and big) but the scalp never popped up. :/

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The scalp is probably from killing other players as a barbarian. For mages it were souls.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I didn't quite understand how to attack other players except using "bloodthirst" (the only 1 out of 3 special abilities which actually damages wanderers) and using explosive vials, so luckily I just killed 2 players and I feel a little bad about it because when I was lvl 2 some high level jerks ran over me and killed me quickly so I had to wait a 12-24 hours again to revive and get full energy. Was really frustrating... but thanks to SErVER that was changed but it would still suck if you are like lvl 6 and a lvl 13 comes around and teabags you with his weapon with 180+ attack value weapon^^

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The third ability of each class instant kills one person in the same square as you that's online at the same time. That ability gives scalps / souls / hearts.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

I never could use the third ability even with 15+ players on a square. And SErVER told me in the chat that it can steal a heart from other players (which I think the dungeon heart was meant by that) so the 3rd ability was of no use to me throughout the whole game.
And even then if (barbarians) my class's 3rd ability steals hearts, the orc wanted scalps from me for the quest so it wouldn't have worked out in the end anyway.
