Definitely not weapon customization. That is the bane of every game's existence. Being able to run around and pick up a weapon without worrying about stupid little upgrades or changes makes everything a whole lot more enjoyable. Simple gameplay is the best gameplay.

I want to see better maps with this next installment, honestly.

Better dynamic pathing, not just a barrier that makes u go a different way. A few more SI, better and deeper story than l4d2. Options in lobby for mp: disable certain weapons, faster SI, disable glows, less throwables/kits spawns, witch every map, no tank slowdown, etc.

I would appreciate cutscenes between campaigns. I know the game is suppossed to be a movie,etc but cutscenes would make the story better and understandable.

Better matchmaking or a ranking system. I don't play L4D, because whenever I join a game, it's full of either wannabe pros or total noobs. The game really needs a better matchmaking system, to distinct different skill level of players. But I think Valve will just add 4-5 new infected, 4 new survivors, 5 new campaigns, then after a patch merge all old campaigns and characters from previous L4Ds. Oh Valve, thank you for all your glorious totally-not-repetitive games.

Honestly, I've been racking my brain, but I just can't come up with anything. Maybe a few more scenarios where the team is forced to split up, or you have to do concurrent actions in separate locations to progress? That could add some challenge.

Overall, I'm afraid it's probably just going to be L4D2 but with more hats.

Maybe the next survivors aren't immune and they use drugs to keep the infection off. when they die they turn into zombies that can actually try to kill the other survivors. more move tropes could be added like the mercy kill or revenge as a zombie thing for bad teammates.

Actually I have a decent size wishlist for L4D3

If a boomer or spitter are spitting/barfing already when they are pushed back, they continue to spit/barf. After all its already coming out, hitting them shouldn't stop people from getting covered.

Give the charger a little bit of an ability to turn while running. Not much but enough to maybe get around a tree or something near the end of a run.

Make it so that that chargers are not just dead stopped when close to a target when they hit the charge button. Many times I have been close to a target, hit the button and it stops like right away. Very annoying.

Make the charger not stop when it hits a leaf or blade of grass. Also make it "bounce" off stuff like walls if hit at a shallow angle.

Ability to have up to 10 or 12 people in game. Love playing with friends but some get ticked off if they are not invited to games all the time due to very limited space. This should be selectable by the person starting the game so that we can decide then and there if we want teams of 4, 5 or even 6 people.

Make witches 100 times harder to crown in multiplayer. Many people have no problems crowning witches at all, specially with automatic shotguns.

Make witches always go for the nearest target when the person that ticked them off is out of a certain range.

Have smarter walking witches. Have them walk towards survivors or something. Many times I have seen one team get totally screwed by having a witch in the way while the other team didn't have to deal with the witch at all cause by the time they got to the same spot she had already walked off to a spot where they did not have to deal with her.

Be able to have pistols on you and selectable even when you have a melee weapon. After all it goes on your hip, you don't keep axes and stuff there and a pistol is not gonna weigh you don't more and when you are down on the ground you still have the pistol anyway.

Be able to have dual deagles. (doubt this would ever happen but well it would be cool)

Even if there is only 4 human spots be able to select from say 12 different characters. All the old survivors along with 4 new ones.

Currently if a boomer is killed in the air and even if they are just above you, you do not get covered in their bile. Would love to see that changed so that it still covers at least a small area below where the boomer exploded.

Have the spitter be able to spread their acid more like a hose spraying out water.

Have infected come from both directions when someone gets boomed.

The more people that get boomed the more infected come.

Have infected come everytime some one gets boomed. There has been many times when I have boomed someone and pretty much no infected at all come. Its not that they are shot or burned before hand, just no infected come.

Be able to put all levels from L4d2 into l4d3.

Have it selectable for the server owner to adjust if tanks and witches launch in different locations for the 2 teams. I really hate it when one team gets a tank before they have to drop into a kill zone, and the other team can't get the tank to launch till they drop into a kill zone. Or when a witch is in an avoidable location for one team and not in one for the second team.

Have it selectable for the server owners to set a minimal distance from the spawn room when a tank can launch. I hate early tanks, I hate it even more when you pretty much open the spawn room door and you get a tank.

Have it selectable for the server owners to set a time limit when a safe room is no longer safe after a tank has launched. Many times I have seen people run back to safe rooms/areas that give them good defense against tanks. Sure the person with the tank doesn't loose it, but still makes it hard to get them out when you can't spawn close to get them out. (Dead Air for one) Allow server owners to set say a 30 second limit so that if they run back to the safe room when a tank launches after 30 seconds, hoards and special infected spawn in the safe room even if there is no place to hide behind, this will help force them out.

Have tanks spawn closer to the survivors. There are a couple of maps, like heavy rain for example where a tank spawns near the safe room the survivors are going to, but they still have 3/4 or more of the map to run. At the very least the loose control timer for the tank should not start till they are within a certain distance or within sight of the tank. Parish (bus terminal) is another map where the tank can spawn so far away that by the time you get in sight of the people you have lost control of the tank and the second person has lost control of the tank.

Allow the infected to be able to grab people while they are in the getting up animation. Many times I have tried to jockey or charge or what ever someone when they are getting up and I run right through them.

Allow survivors to take pills/adrenaline while they are down. They might not be able to get back up, but at least they could survive a little longer while down. They can pull out a gun, but can't pop some pills or adrenaline?

Workshop subscribe ability for servers to allow servers to be automatically updated with the latest versions of user made maps and items. And of course turn off the ability when a game is started.

Ability to restart just the second half of a chapter. Many times there has been someone thats crashed after the first team has already been through a map, and while waiting for the person to get back in the survivors waiting has taken a lot of damage from hoards and bots and if we restart a chapter that means the other team has to go again. Very annoying when one team has taken a bunch of damage even before the round starts.

Custom weather/day/night for all maps. Server owner has settings for "map weather (weather pattern set by the map creator), random weather, rain, dry, snow, dust" and "map time of day (time of day set by the map creator), random, morning, afternoon, evening, midnight". Of course both teams would get the same weather and same time of day even if set to random.

Ability to duck/roll under big rigs. There is more then enough room for people to do that.

More special infected ladders.

Less invisible walls or at least better placement. Specially on top of buildings where the hunter can get to. There are a few levels where really you should be able to at least with the hunter jump from one side of the building to the other cause a road goes down one side, a passage way is there for the survivors and the road goes down the other side of that same building.

Better AI pathing. Many times I have seen normal infected trying to climb stuff to get to a survivor when the survivor was standing almost next to them with no barriers in between.

NO FREAKING HATS! Do not make this into a something like Team Fortress 2 with hat or what ever drops.

Thats all I can think of right now.
